Title: ID this noise, please
Post by: Kenji on April 05, 2012, 02:55:42 PM
As my FD had stood still for 4 weeks while I was in hospital, I finally fired her up again today and took her for a drive.
When she was warmed up, I noticed a strange noise on boost. Sounded like a highpitched sound, like air coming out of a small opening.
The sound cannot be heard when opening the throttle at standstill, only when driving, and on boost.

I tried recording it, you can make out the sound several times in the video.
Who knows what it could be?

You have an airleak coming from somewhere.
It could be just a boost pipe coming off but also on the y pipe one of them could be coming undone where they join the turbo pack and the metal gaskets make that noise when loose, or last week we had a leak on an after market dump valve where the body was leaking slightly from one of the bolts being missing.

Coming back to this, finally found some time, and the skills (I\'m currently recovering from partial amputation of my right thumb after being diagnosed with skin cancer), and turns out one of the bolts holding the Blitz BOV in place had worked loose, so on boost it was blowing through the gasket there.
Tightened. Drove the car. Boosted. Happy times.

Always good to hear things being sorted.  Well done for finding the problem.  Enjoy and heal well (for the thumb of course)
