Title: Street port supporting mods??
Post by: Adam fc on April 04, 2012, 03:15:59 AM
I\'m looking to get my 13bt street ported at the end of the month and I\'m wondering what supporting mods if any would it need to get the best out of the porting?

You could change the hot side on the turbo which would make more power, assuming your running a stock turbo. When going for more power obvious upgrades are full exhaust with decat, ported (stock) waste gate, higher flow induction kit with a bigger intercooler, with these you\'ll need a different ecu. Obviously all this will mean upgrading the fueling, firstly the pump will need replacing or at least a re-wire and then you could replace the secondaries. For upgraded fueling you\'ll need either an ecu that can cope with fueling or a piggyback fueling system like the GReddy e-manage or similar.

I\'m no expert but from what I\'ve learned, street porting (or porting of any sort) aids in spooling the turbo more than anything else. Obviously this mean the bigger the turbo the more you\'ll make use of the porting you do!

Jut wan\'t to say I\'ve not done to much of the above this is just what I\'ve learned over the past year or too. If I\'m wrong about any of the above
I\'m sure somone will come and correct me :)

If you think of porting as if it was changing the cams on a piston engine - slightly hotter cam means more air and fuel is able to get in to give more power, but only if its mapped for it etc

Better intake and exhaust will allow the porting to work for you, it can help with bigger turbo\'s or a hybrid, but make sure you start with supporting mods, such as fueling.

It will extend your usable power band and push it just a little higher up the rev range - so if you\'ve still got the stock ECU and it\'s 7000 rpm cut, you will want to change that...

well I\'ve done all the basic things such as breathing mods and it\'s currently running an re ameya ecu.
I\'m just looking to get it running with the scope of running more power later on.
The only fuelling mods so far are a Walbro 255lph pump stainless braided fuel lines and standard injectors cleaned and tested.
So should in "theory" the car run well enough on that current set up? the only other thing I can think of is as its going to have a mild port is the extra amount of exhaust gass it\'s going to produce so in theory I need to really port the waste gate to get some control over boost levels?

oh and it\'s currently running a massive fmic!

Porting waste gate is defo, or you\'ll get boost spike and that can be fatal.

I\'ve got the same question but with an EGi, sorry for the hijack but I think it may help others to have it all in the same thread.

Don\'t know much about egi tuning but carbs perhaps? Headers, exhaust system. What has Carl Hayward advised you to do mate? What are your long term goals, again not trying to be negative but is porting an egi worth the costs involved? :)

Porting an egi and doing exhaust, ida and let\'s nit forget the flywheel produce very good power. I know of a couple that have been done hete and Rob from pineapple racing in the states gets very good power from them. The internals are good too with having the higher comp rotors. You would more than likely need to up rate the fuel system also with 8mm id fuel lines and a carter or Holley blue fuel pump and regulator. I can help with mains and jet numbers to get you started and save valuable time on the rollers for the egi.
Just my 2p worth as I look at my egi engine dismantled on the bench.

what you need is to buy my new TO4r and make some nice power - dont bother with hiflow stock turbo and porting wastegate rubbish :)

yeah well the plans are get it rebuilt and running and just run the stock turbo into the ground then ill think of something larger as i dont have any plans for big power as im trying to build it to last.....perhaps!
