Post by: edward4 on April 14, 2003, 05:56:24 AM
My Cobra alarm/immobiliser has malfunctioned immobilisng my ignition. Started when the battery terminal came off. now alarm LED will not light and car will not start. All battery checks done and all ok. Advice please. If not mobile car electricians in North London area would be appreciated.

Cheers Eddie

had a problem with the immobiliser on my T16, and turned out there is a small wire which runs from the immob. unit to the ignition switch on the steering column; this had burned out...

...cost me £40 for the local garage to fix it (didnt fancy fiddling with the electronic gubbins myself), but about two months to trace the fault...

this might be a similar thing, so worth a check

Hi Eddie,

Does the alarm work at all anymore ?,if not try the fuse thats
feeds the alarm.Removing the battery terminal might have
sent a spike to the unit.if the led is not flashing then this would
   indicate a power loss.

Thanks for  helpful replies from cat boy and Gary T. Both on the right track. You\'re right Gary T. Traced the wire from the ignition. It led to a blown 10 amp fuse near the internal fuse box. changed it and bingo. That was this morning  before I read your posts. Am amazed to have got such good advice so quickly.

Cheers
