Title: Harness Installation with cross bar
Post by: fullonloon on April 03, 2012, 11:00:22 AM
Hello,

I have a full 6 point roll cage with rear cross bar. I\'d like to fit harnesses as currently its just regular seat belts. I wonder which harnesses would be suitable and where to fix them to? Does anyone have a walk through they can share?

Thanks

Schroth have plenty of guides on installing harnesses. Link to instructional vids below.

I just happened to install a Luke 4 point harness at the weekend. I wrapped the shoulder straps around a bar similar to yours between the suspension turrents.

I used an eye bolt screwed in the exsisting holes behind and either side of the seats for the lap straps. The straps clip to the eye bolts.

I have the crotch straps but they really are a nuisance unless your serious on track or racing.

Any decent 4 point with at least 3 inch shoulder straps would do.

Thanks, yes I think I will get a 4 point harness. I do remember someone advising on here that it wasn\'t sensible to use the brace for this purpose (due to safety concerns) but I\'m not sure what else you could use?

OEM brace definitely not useable as it\'s a bit thin (also padded). I stood on my bar between some wood and it hardly flexed! Maybe they were referring to the anchor points that\'s probably the failure point. Best for you would actually be a horizontal bar on your roll cage but not too low as the harness needs to be not less than a 20 Deg angle below your shoulders if I remember correctly.
