Title: Rolling Road Figures for a TII
Post by: Sean on July 07, 2004, 01:08:55 AM
I\'m attending a rolling road session next week with the MR2 club (long story), I\'m just wondering what figures to expect?(http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/fragend/confused-smiley-013.gif)

I\'ve a 1990 TurboII With a centre de-cat powerflow exhaust, cheapo motorsport-dumpvalve, and a K&N air filter replacement.

I fear that I may have a boost problem too.(http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/mittelgrosse/medium-smiley-100.gif) The stock boost gauge shows that the boost goes just over O, and I checked it with Grinders TIM gauge which showed 0.6bar for one second before it went back down to 0.4bar.

This would mean that I have a boost problem, but if this is the case, why can I still fight off a MR2 turbo (260bhp) and an Evo (358bhp)!(http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/mittelgrosse/medium-smiley-080.gif)

Any spaces left for the session?

Oh, just seen where you are in the country, might be a bit far if there was any space.

I would say dont trust the stock guage 100 % if you can get hold of aftermarket one install that.  If your car is still performing and giving you that big kick in the teeth when you hit the loud pedal then it could just be the boost guage is shagged.

with that set up i would expect something like 210bhp ( not sure if thats at the fly or the wheels ) - but the car should be about 202 as standard and with the main cat gone and the filter - you should make another 8 bhp

let us all know the results

stu

( and you have PM )

not that i know very much much with regards to rolling road i would be surprised if it 210bhp at the wheels personally stu might be at the fly.Just my 2 pence worth

210 at the wheels would be impressive to say the least

i think it would be at the fly which should give you about 180 RWHP

which isnt that bad really - better than 3rd gen if i read correctly :) http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7463

Pip did tell me the formulea (http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/aktion/action-smiley-036.gif) for determining the fly from the rear wheel and vice versa, but again I was distracted by the black FD with a half built four rotor (http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/auto/car-smiley-012.gif) outside his office!!!!

I\'m worried because as I said, the TIM boost gauge said that I was holding only 0.4bar(http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/mittelgrosse/medium-smiley-045.gif)

thats no good matey !

i think it would have been about your new K&N filter :)

ah whilst on the subject - when you had the boost gauge in the car - when running round with no boost ( ie slowly ) - what did it show on the gauge - mine was reading about -0.5 bar

did yours do the same ? - and i think i was only hitting about 0.4 bar aswell which is 5.8015 PSI

not sure if thats right or wrong ???

dont we all - but you need the ££££££££££££££ to do it !

big turbo , big injectors and fuel pump & ECU = open wallet surgery

you want to be calling JapSpy Performance! ;)

Sorry couldn\'t resist the plug!

Stuff I\'m doing on mine:

Work Currently underway:
1/2 Bridgeport
de-cat exhaust
Single Plate Clutch

needs:
ECU (Microtech)
Bigger injectors (1600 ideally on secondaries, maybe 1200)
Fuel pump
BIG Turbo (I\'m thinking GT35/40 or GT42)

costs? I\'m just not thinking about it!

better safe than sorry on the fueling front, especially as I\'m intending on running quite high boost once the car is all sorted in 2097  ! Also with the BP and a big turbo, the fuelling needs will be quite high I would suspect. I\'m no techie genius but that\'s my theory and I\'m sticking to it!

yeah i know what you mean - but 1600\'s

can you actually run a small enough amount of fuel thru them so that you dont run rich ???

yeah at full boost then 1600 - i would assume fine

but going at 75 down the motorway with no boost - then you would need to curb the fuel ( although not sure when the secondaries kick in )

Quotebut going at 75 down the motorway with no boost - then you would need to curb the fuel ( although not sure when the secondaries kick in )

You have obviously never seen me on the motorway! :D

I will leave it at that for fear of incriminating myself!

Not sure on the ins and outs of the Secondaries thing I have some research to do, still the engine wil be running in for a few months yet so plenty of time! I really need to sit down with one of the pros here and find out exactly what the fueling demands would be for waht I\'m looking for and set the car up accordingly. It\'s all a bit of a work in progress. Also need to sort out some transfers with the company logo on ideally in time for JAE, anyone know of a good place to get of car graphics made?
