I\'m looking at relocating my battery to the boot of my FC and I\'m looking at which battery would be best as I understand I need a dry cell battery if it is going to live inside the car! I\'d preferabley like to have a battery that could cope with the daily running like stereo and lights so I\'m not looking at a cheap light weight racing battery just something suitable.
So my question is which size battery and what sort of amp battery should I be looking at?
Was thinking this one?! maybee abit overkill tho??

what\'s the stock FC battery supposed to be?
I\'ve had good experiences with Westco batteries in MX5\'s and I would think if it has the capacity to crank over a 4-pot motor then it may be good for a 2-rotor engine?
You\'d need to check the figures for that though.
The Odyssey battery you linked to looks like the Daddy of batteries though!

im using a optima red top which is a dry cell & very good , with super cranking power 750amp
I\'m not sure what the stock battery is supposed be but when I got my FC it had a diesel engine battery in it! that span It over quick tho!
Okay I\'ll have a look at wesco too!
Yeah those red tops look good which model did u go for?
Just seen something which says the stock battery was a 12v maintainence free 50Ah unit.

so you\'ll likely need something bigger than the Westco I linked to.
I\'ve been using an Odessey 22 in my FD for the last few years, no issues with cranking, etc.

Yeah the oddessey range looks strong contender. I got this email back from optima regarding the gassing of their batteries.
Hello Adam
It is important that ANY lead acid battery has proper ventilation. :censored:ALL lead acid batteries can vent gas. :censored:Traditional wet batteries do this immediately when recharged since they are not sealed. :censored:
Sealed lead acid batteries like Optima and all other “Dry Cell” batteries have safety release valves that will only vent if they are seriously overcharged. :censored:Under normal operating conditions an Optima will not vent gas. :censored:
Since alternators or chargers can fail, the safest and correct mounting method for trunks and passenger compartments is to make sure that any possible gas venting will escape to the outside of the vehicle. :censored:All vehicles with original equipment battery locations in trunks or passenger compartments will have a vent provision that should be used. :censored:If you are custom mounting a battery in the trunk or passenger compartment we recommend venting the battery to the outside of the vehicle also. :censored:
Optima group 27, 51, 78, 34C, and 31 batteries all have ports for connecting a vent hose.
Thank:censored:you,
Mary Jo

So it looks like I\'ll have to vent which ever battery I go for?!
I\'d suspect that the technically correct answer is yes.
In the real world very few of us do beyond the natural draftiness of 20+ year old cars! The reply seems to imply that only overcharging the battery significantly (which I assume causes heat and expansion/release of gasses) would cause a venting so normal use should e safe.
Probably!
I use a PC680 to start my V8 and it\'s fine for that but if it was sat outside and used more often then IMHO I would specify the PC925 as a more sensible choice.
On a cold day and with say a partial charge the PC680 wouldn\'t be able to crank for too long if there was a problem.
I\'ve had a PC680 and a PC2500 (the absolute daddy, CCA of 2500amps) but they don\'t seem to last all that long for me. After about 2yrs of use the batteries fail to hold charge properly. I\'ve never had one vent on me and I will be buying a PC1200 in the next few days to replace the PC2500. Its quite a bit lighter too !
Shaun
Great well I think the pc925 will be the choice battery for me at the moment. cherries for your help guys! :-)
