just got my hybrid back from turbo dynamics, it already had the T04 housing on it when I got hold of it, they fully rebuilt it, 360 thrust bearing mods, ported the inlet, ported and rebuilt the wastegate, clipped the turbine wheel and fully balanced it.
Can\'t wait to get it on the car, pics below
Dammit, thats exactly what I am planning to build lol what sized T04 compressor did you go for?
Not to sure about that it was on there when I got the turbo, I think its a t04b got it from someone off MRC as a knightsport s320
Ah ok, yeah it seems that the FC hybrids are either a T04B and then steps up to a T04E, the largest compressor housing being a 60-1 which can be quite laggy, I am guessing you asked them to clip the compressor wheel? What downpipe will you be running? I would suggest running a spacer on the back of the turbo (like Prof) so that the wastegate can actually open.
That\'s prety awesome, do please explain to us simpletons. Is this a complete aftermarket turbo is it the same size as stock but modified?

OEM turbo with the compressor housing and compressor wheel bolted onto it - the stock turbo has a CHRA that allows for a T04B or TO4E to be bolted on, but the whole assembly has to be balanced due to the change in wheel.

the turbine (hotside) wheel is clipped a bit so it will still spool up like standard but has less back pressure higher up the rev range and flow better.
The spacer is a good idea, but I have notched out the turbine back plate so the flapper has more travel, flapper valves flow 85-90% when they are about 10% open
Good plan, ive just completly removed that blocking plate from the back of the turbo and am running a custom bell mouth downpipe so that the flapper can open as far as it wants to lol I think as OEM it moves around 5-6mm when \'fully open\' until the flapper hits the plate at the back!
What power is this likely to run, also could I enquire as to the cost?
Mitch, I was thinking of doing that ie, getting the back plate cut and machined to form a flange to weld on to so the fapper could open and the bonus of a big turbo outlet for better flow.
The only thing that put me off is the turbo guy said that the seals these turbos use require a slight pressure drop across the tirbine inlet and outlet so if the wastegate opened to a common bell type exit with no restriction the inlet and outlet could become the same pressure so the seals could let oil into the exhuast houseing.
BMartin- the turbo should be good for 320-350 rwhp depending on other mods, I have stock ports at the mo so I want to see how much I can get with these
Hmmm probably why my FC is the only one in the world with a bell mouth downpipe then lol don\'t get boost creep though :rollin my OEM turbo is fully upgraded but with the stock compressor housing, I have a spare good OEM turbo in the garage :)

i had a mate back home in australia who had a s5 turbo which had a 66mm front wheel so pretty much become a T66 with the mazda rear housing which is equak to a 1.00 rear.. Made 380rwhp on 17psi in a FB and ran best of 10.7 @ 125mph
Just be careful as with a hybrid you will get pretty agressive boost spike - it would of been better to weld it up and throw a 44 or 50mm waste gate on it.
Good luck with it..

Thats a lot from a hybrid, I understand about useing a bigger waste gate but that would mean getting a new manifold, waste gate and down pipe which makes going for the hybrid turbo pointless.
What sort of ports did your mates car have
Cheers
not really - you can add a wastegate to the stock manifold no worries.
he was just running a extend port nothing crazy..

Adding a wastegate to the stock manifold has got me thinking (any details) I\'ll try with the internal one but if I have problems controling the boost I might give it a go
Im sure you would be able to simply mod the internal wastegate and increase the size of the port and change the flapper.
Was gonna say what mitch said, just port the stock waste gate and fit a new spring/actuator if you need to. There is a write up in fc3spro about the ported waste gate.

Already done have a look at the pics, its been ported to as big as it can get and they modified the flapper with a new shaft and seal so hopfuly it should work ok

Did you port the waste gate yourself or did turbonetics do that to? :)
