Title: Rust proofing
Post by: grinder on March 13, 2012, 04:26:57 PM
Hiya :D

I had a quick look at the cab over the weekend , and the inner rear arches are looking a bit rusty

What has everyone on here used to treat this ( and yes i know .. cut out the rust and weld in new stuff )

But even with doing that .. how do you then protect it

My plan ( in my head ) is to rub it down the best i can ( with the suspension in the way , could be tricky ) then thinking 3-4 coats of white hammerite and them some underseal ( with waxoyl )

Do you think this will protect it for a while , or do i need more drastic action ??

Im thinking that the hammerite will give a nice base coat ( in white ) , and then the underseal should stop the stones etc.. from chipping it

also i can gauge the underseal by how much white i can see when i have finished ( in theory none ) and in the future , if any white shows thru , it means that its chipping off

So what has everyone else done to theirs to stop the dreaded rust ( this is a FC by the way ... to renouned for it ;) )

Stu
