Title: Help
Post by: Dan507 on March 04, 2012, 01:12:30 AM
Help. My rx8 has just overheated. It was fine one minute then the temp was in the red. There is no coolant in the tank and no pressure when I took of the cap. The car will not start either. So I\'m stranded. Over 10 miles from home. I\'m wait for the recovery people to pick me up.

What\'s wrong with my car? Is the engine :censored::censored::censored::censored:ed or is it a coolant related. Or waterpump ect.

Thanks.

are there any obvious signs of a leak mate .
best thing fill it up do a visual check to see if anythings leaking and go from there

did you notice any difference in power before the temp shot up
did you turn it off as soon as poss
if a seals gone as did on a friends we filled the water up started it up and the compression from the engine chucked the coolant back out the re fill neck
some bits to try later today i guess failing that off to a specialist for a compression test

Yes i did but its was 8.5k the power just droped off. the temp gauge was fine.
carried on . looks down at the temp gauge 10 seconds later and it was in the read. i turned it off asap the fans carried on going for a minute.

There is coolant all the engine bay. and all up the rear bumper. Also turns of that there was coolant on my drive when i left.

I\'m going to look at it now. see what the damage is but i know i\'m looking at a possible engine rebuild :(

Apologies I meant to report your post (and others) for swearing but posted in the thread instead - busted I guess! :2eek

We normally discuss this sort of thing in the Mods area before deciding what action to take.

I see your location is Dorset, so maybe a good idea to contact Tim at RX-Motors for advice as to what to do next;

RX-Motors (http://www.rxmotors.co.uk/)

As you won\'t get to talk to Tim until Monday, I\'d be tempted to partially re-fill with coolant, if you have some to hand, look for leaks when not under pressure. If you find it, fix it, fill system and try to start the engine. If it starts, re-check for leaks and undoubtedly there will be air-locks in the system to sort out too; if she runs.....

You could fill the engine with coolant and a product called K seal, that might just get you going again, but I think it would be also wise to see if any coolant hoses are split or something like that too.

Carl

thanks for that link.

More bad news. cut a long story short. the is coolant in the oil so it needs a rebuild. FML it tucked away ready for the engine to be taken out.
