Title: Would appreciate some help!
Post by: Dan.R on March 03, 2012, 09:11:48 PM
Well, my insurance ran out early February and was going to leave my rx7 stood until 28th march when im 21 as it\'ll go down... I started it up every saturday and it was fine..

I started it up yesterday and it was its usual self but then it suddenly went a lot deeper sound, almost sounds like its misfiring, (was low on fuel at the time).
I thought it may be an issue because it is low on fuel, added £30 and its up to quarter, i drove it up and down the road, (sensibly lol) and its lost most if not all power. The sound is REALLY deep and idles completely different. The idle before was like it was hunting, like a cammed idle and now its sits at just under 1K and is completely flat.

She does have a few mods on her, like Apexi PowerFC, Dragon performance Pulley Kit, Gt 35 Single turbo conversion, Blitz Dump Valve, Big Aluminium Front mount intercooler, Big aluminium Racing Radiator, 850cc primary and 1600cc secondary injectors, Turbo Smart 38mm External Wastegate, FSE Fuel Pressure Regulator & Uprated Fuel Pump.

As i said earlier in post, RX7 has lost most if not all its power, doesnt feel like it even has 200BHP. No smoke at all, Engine has no knocking and doesnt sound like a diesel...

Also the FSE fuel pressure regulator was making a high pitched whine, but that seems to have stopped now...

Could i have caught something on the PowerFC? is it spark plugs? Im genuinely gutted :(

Will appreciate any help at all!

IIRC the map sensor is on the rear bulkhead of an FD, should have one hose and one electrical connection.

I hope you already know where the plugs are... :Giggle

Just went out and checked the map sensor, its all fine (well looks it) nothing loose.

Funny thing is, i have no clue where they are, looked for a good 10 minutes and cant see a thing! its just so cramped and everything is like in layers! haha

I think that the wastegate is stuck open.Check if you are making no boost or less than before.
I have had this happen on Turbosmart before quite a few years ago so from then on I only use Tial wastegates and have never had the issue again.

Okay, thanks for that! how would i check the wastegate is open?

Yeah ive got a boost gauge, it all looks fine, it was flashing a couple of days the rx7 went like it has... It revs slowly compared to normal... Takes a little longer to rev down as well after letting go off gas...

Thanks to everyone! really appreciate the help. Im a total noob when it comes to rotary lol.

i suppose the only way to work out what to do is work it out

If you rebuild it - whats its worth 4.5K ?? ( dont ask me i have no idea )

So its 2k to rebuild .. would you get 2.5k as it stands now ( to be honest , i dont think you would ?? )

So lets say its worth 1.5K now ( as its got a single etc. ) , could you get it rebuilt and sold for more than 3.5K - yes i think you could

Sooooooo in locigal terms , spend the 2k and rebuild it to get a better price to sell it

Lets be honest here, no one is buying 17yr old mazdas. To spend £2k on it in the hope your gonna sell it for £4k is a pretty big gamble. Never thought i`d steer someone towards breaking an fd, but if you want some money from it that`ll be the best option.
But do try and sell it as it is. Its easily worth £1500
