Title: I feel a project coming on!
Post by: MillSpeed on July 05, 2004, 04:20:33 PM
Well I thought it was about time I introduced you all to my beloved Rex.  After spending the best part of a year in storage, it\'s finally out in the sunsine again.  After taking some snaps, she went straight back in the garage for te \'treatment\'.  Exterior mods will include a FEED Type-II front and a carbon fibre GT wing.  Plus, the side repeaters, rear quarter markers, aerial, rear wash/wipe etc. will all be removed and smoothed before the whole lot is coated in fresh black paint.  On the inside, a Momo millennium steering weel and a pair of Cobra Imola II bucket seats will finish things off nicely.  Current mods include:

Super ARC induction box
HKS dump valve
Zigen5 cat-back exhaust
Mazdaspeed short-shifter
\'99 spec rear lights
17" Rays Mazdaspeed split rims (shit-hot!!!)
Blitz boost gauge
RE-Amemiya steering wheel

Anyways, here\'s some pics

My arch is/was  loads worse than that.  I pretty much fixed it up last week.  Its surprising just how brutal you have to be with the hammer though!

Yeah, feeling a bit apprehensive about taking a hammer to my FD. Saying that, broke out the MIG welder yesterday....it\'s a strangely liberating experience attacking my car wit an angle grinder!!! Still, can\'t make an omelette n\'all that.

I haven\'t actually got my FEED front yet.....spoke to Ross and he said they\'re working on some new and improved replicas of their own using the last copy they got from the states. He said they should be ready in a couple of weeks so I\'ll be making a trip down to Exeter they are!

Quick question for you all as your talking of projects, how much would it cost for a car respray at your estimates, as you seem like guys who would be in the know about these things.

cheers

The final cost of a respray is dependant on a lot of factors. You can save an awful lot by doing all the prep-work yourself. I\'m basically going to be trailering my filled, flatted and masked car to the spray booth, simply because it would be impossible to achieve the finish I\'m after in my garage using my spray gun. Even then you\'re still talking about £300-£400 and that\'s in black. I\'m sure metallics would be more expensive. The spray shop down the road from me were talking well over a grand to fully prep and spray a car.

Yeah mate, I need to send some piccies of my rear seats to a guy in Bristol. Meant to take my digi camera home this weekend, but what with me being a tit n\'all I went and forgot it. Going home tomorrow to sell a jaguar bonnet so I\'ll grab some snaps then. Still trying to decide if I want to go through the hassle of putting the bins in.

You have to be careful with Rays/Volks wheels as often the centre caps are optional extras so if you dont specify them when ordering you dont get them!

Ha ha! Crafty! Hey, do you know if there are any RAYS dealers in the UK? I desperately need a pair of the valve caps with \'Rays\' embossed on the top. Some pikey theived the other two.

Undoing the damage the vandals did to my wings.

Here she is having her spark plugs cleaned just before I fired her up for the first time in about 10 months. Literally took 2 cranks and she roared into life! BOOYAH!

FEED Type II front resting in place. Decided to paint-strip the wings which revealed a multitude of dents and dodgy repairs! Didn\'t realise the RX-7 had galvanised panels.
Progress is painfully slow now I\'ve got a new house to contend with....so many projects and so little time.

looks like it is going to be sweet when it is finished, any idea on times?
Isnt always the way to much to do so little time!

Cheers mate! I\'m beginning to wish I\'d just left it alone now, there wasn\'t much wrong with it in the first place  Anyways, I\'m gonna have a massive blitz on it over the festive season....with any luck I\'ll have her ready to paint (and saved up enough $$) by the spring.
