Title: FD Wont start.
Post by: Mikey22 on February 12, 2012, 10:17:21 PM
Hey guys i need some help trying to iliminate the possibilities of why my fd wont start.

Heres whats been going on so far......

I took most of the engine out to change a few gaskets. Ive put a new thermostat in and ive replaced the water pump gaskets and seals. I have put it all back togeather and decided to do an oil change etc whilst i had the car on the ramp.

Stupidly i over filled the oil as i was looking at the wrong dipstick. I was looking at the one for the gearbox and like any true dipstick (no pun intended) allowed it to over fill. So i drained the oil off to the correct level.

I tried to start the car and it was firing however it would cut out immediately. Its trying to start but wont fire without the turn of the key.

So i thought it might be flooded or has too much oil in the engine. So i removed all the spark plugs and cleaned them then cranked it over with EGI relay pulled to get any excess fluid out the engine.

I then replaced the relay and the spark plugs to try again.

It was turning over and wanting to fire but it just wouldnt fire up completely.

Ive looked at ignition
Fuel supply
Intake
Throttle body
Electronics

I just cant think of why it wont start.

Any help or suggestions will be a great help.

Thanks

Mike

If you put it back together as you took it out, 1st check over what you done.  Fit new plugs, or tow start.

Did you out the spark plug leads back on the correct way? Are they pushed on correctly?

There is only a tiny bit of oil injected into the engine and it metered so even if its overfilled it won\'t inject more than usual, I would indeed check the plug leads are going to the right place, they should have number and letters on them, the engine will technically run on the trailing spark plugs, but not very well!

I would:

Take out the plugs
Dry them
Take out the EGI fuse
Crank the engine over with all plugs out with the throttle fully open
Replace plugs
Replace fuse
Double check the leads
Try and start it
