Title: Heat indicator warning thingummy
Post by: Welsh Dan on July 04, 2004, 03:20:52 AM
Hi.
Due to the turbo deciding it wanted out via the exhaust, it completely knackered the cat. I had the cat replaced with a de-cat, for which the sensor was not reconnected or put back into the pipe. Now i\'ve been driving around for a day like this, but tonight the heat indicator came on and wouldn\'t go off. My understanding was that it said when the Cat was too hot, but a: I don\'t have a cat and b: the sensor isn\'t connected anyhow?

Any suggestions?

Hiya,
had the same light a little while back.
Apparently the light means that your engine bay is overheating. Some japanese writing on the drivers sunvisor has the same symbol and basically it says stop and see a service engineer.
I had the car serviced and the light hasn\'t been on since.

Sorry, I never bothered asking how they got rid of the light. Maybe when they renewed the coolant?

Hope this helps

Cheers

But its coming on straight away as soon as I turn the car on, even if its cold. Also, its definitely the cat temperature, as thats what it says in the handbook

Where were you when I was asking what the light meant!!!!

Where\'s that japanese fella that told me what it said?

I\'ll ring the garage tomorrow and ask what they did to make the light go out.

Just out of interest, I was/am getting some hesitation problems and thought it might be a clogged cat. Swapped it for a straight thru, and found that the material inside the cat was falling out. Maybe that has something to do with it.

I believe that particular light is controlled by the ECU and can mean one of a few different faults. I sure ive heard about the sensor wires from the removed sensor shorting out when left hanging. Maybe talking rubbish !!

Ok the garage said they found that the wires to the sensor may of been shorting, giving a heat indication.

I was led to beleive this is a latching indication- it\'ll stay on (like as soon as you turn on the engine) all the time until it is fixed and reset.

They talked about a reset procedure. Something like disconnect the battery, press the brakes, connect the battery, turn around twice and say something in japanese. This reset\'s the indicator fault (maybe ecu reset?).

Well, ok  not quite the last bit, but it was definitely white mans magic. Does anyone know this procedure?
