You my car tested on the rolling road today, and as i feared it\'s massively low on power ( not felt quick since i bought it ).
heres the readout... any idea\'s i really wanna get this sorted. I dont have a boos gauge but when they tested the boost at the last service they said it was fine.
.(http://homepage.ntlworld.com/daniel.keefe.106/car/rx7/readout.jpg) (scan came out abit messy looking for some reason)
what should it be... looking at the recipt from Rotechnics from when they got the second turbo running it was 7psi primary and 5 psi secondary... sounds low
Have you got a scan of the boost pattern?
Looking @ the power output you don\'t get it building after the transition - peak should be somewhere in the 6500-7200 range and be really steep from ~4750 onwards to peak point.
boost should be 0.8bar primary, 0.7bar secondary, I think ~10psi.
Iain
been wondering if mines still speed restricted... how do they do that exactly? these guys were going to 7000 rpm in 4th taking well iver 112... how acurate are the limiters and is it really obvious? i was just wondering that as i reached 6 thousand rpm in 4th i was passing 125ish mph and something was reducing engine power.... arghhh i dunno.
thats all i have, it was a group run. :( aparently it\'s running rich.. but thats not unusual is it?
whats a high Co2 level? mines 9% aparently
If you were doing 7 then 5 psi at rotechnics then you do have a boost problem as your pattern should be 10-8-10 PSI (8 is just before the secionbd turbo kicks in ~4500 rpm).
Hopefulyl it might jsut be a leak some where.
It\'ll (99%) be a dead cat - both my chart and Gav\'s looked neigh on identical to what you\'ve posted up :)
Put a new cat, or if you can a silenced midpipe, in there and your missing power will return - makes a huge difference :)
BTW, you get much lower readings on Sun RR\'s than at other more commonly used rollers.
Sorry if this sounds like a poo poo comment, but Powerstations rollers always read on the low side for BHP figures.
Been there more than a few times and think Dirk and Rich are great guys, but their rollers are on the tight side.
Fish
PS. But they do a great geometry setup on cortina\'s (scoobys) ;)
well cars that were there as stock were coming out almost spot on so there rollers cant be much out.
Must admit my exaust does sound abit rattly... how much is that likely to set me back?
ello?
also should me wastegate be really loud when im running such low boost? i dont have a dump valve that i can see or know off. Is it loud even on stock cars.
i\'m wondering if this knightsport ECU has anything to do with it..
so many possability\'s...
Get a cheap boost gauge to confirm boost actually being made. You either have a control problem, or a poo\'d turbo pack. Dan made about 170-180 atws with a buggered turbo pack last year at g-force.
before i discovered my boost leak last year my boost pattern was 6-5-5.
So check the obvious
1. Intercooler rubber couplings for splits
2. Vacuum Hoses
3. Solenoids
4. Blocked Cat

That\'s my basis for saying they are accurate (fly wheel figure, at the wheels is hit and miss) as well, not that it goes down too well with folks who like to have big bhp figures ;)
If it is anything like the MAHA setup we have up here the one huge drawback is the cooling system is useless for FD\'s and not much better for cars running top/side mounts. Because of the cooling issues a car can gain 30+bhp just by having a front mount, which isn\'t right.
Exhaust wise you are looking at around 400 for a cat IIRC, or 200-350 for a silenced midpipe. The only real problem with putting a midpipe in is your fueling may well then be out meaning you need a PFC as well (600-650).
Co2 wise they no longer put anything near my exhaust as the first time one of them tried he left crying saying it was very rich :D and they all seem to have learnt from his mistake - pretty sure I got around 12% on my scooby.
ok im going to get onto the blower to Rotechniks tomorrow, see about possible Vac hose change as they recommend i get it done when i was there 8 months ago. Also thats not as bad as i thought for the Cat so i\'ll look into that, deffo wanna get a boost gauge fitted, i personally have no idea where or how to fit one.
