Apologies if this has already been posted.

It has Nissan 2l turbo(4 cylinder), Skyline gearbox and 4wd drivesystem and Mazda rear diff. She does sound amazing and goes like mad.

Valtonen Motorsports has been building it. He has done trackcar from FD with similar engine. Dont remember how much power she had, it was like 750hp...

No, a little 2litre SR20 I\'m afraid.

I\'m not sure if 13Bs are legal in rallycross supercars, but to be competitive with the big boys you need around 600lbft of torque or more (this car has 590), the top guys have almost 700lbft.

Is this stav I was talking too on FB about rotaries and torque? If so mate if you want to see my rx4 turbo, check out my build in the old skill section;)

That torque is just mental, I wonder what it would be like without the inlet restrictor?!

Oh yeah. I\'m presuming by that last discussion then that these rallycross guys are idiots who cant drive, and they just need to learn to change gear rather than needing that torque to be competitive, lol.

RX4 looks v.good, I like old skool rotaries.

haha touche. cant agree more about having torque TBH but getting 3 bar into rotaries might not be so easy holding it together but would reduce the necessity for porting and keeping the power lower down.

I know Rice Racing is pumping close to 2 bar on stock ports pre turbo WM50/50 etc and hes close to 650 hp by his in car equipement, or there abouts.

Stock ports on AI with a huge turbo would give reasonable torque.  However if you want more torque, go 20B, imagine a 20b turbo with AI!

The only way a rotary can give more torque than HP, is if you run 35+ psi and stock ports etc....
Rotaries are HP engines, and HP is what wins races, simple as that!
Whatever engine you talk about, around 5000-5500rpm,  the HP curve cross and pass over the torque curve. After that, its all about horsepower...
And lets be honest, how often do you drop under 5000 rpm when racing?

Why else would race-engines, racebikes, formula-1 cars etc have tons of HP and 37,1lbs of torque?
Torque makes you weel spin of the line, HP wins races..
nuff said.

In long distance racing torque would be more useful than hp. (le mans 24hr)

A Rotary won Le Mans against 7.4 litre V12 Jaguars and 5.0 V8 Turbo Sauber Mercs.  And Three Rotor N/A RX8s have been competing at the Daytona 24 hour for the last 6 years against V8 Corvettes and Porsche 911s so torque\'s not necessary for endurance racing.

The torque is useful here because you\'re turning four wheels and running on both tarmac and mud, on mud you\'re working to get the car through the mud so more torque is useful.

Midrange torque isnt a big deal on a racetrack at race speeds providing it has the gearing to stay in the powerband. You\'ll rarely ever see the rpms to need it.

But its vital where things go slow fast slow. Road, sprint, rally, drift, etc etc, no matter how good a driver you think you are, and no matter what your gear ratios are.

Get in a rotary with a quick spooling turbo and a good boost controller. Drive it once with it running 0.8bar all the way through the rev range. Drive it again where the boost peaks at 1.5bar and slowly tails off to 0.8bar by peak power rpm, so exactly the same peak power level.
Then tell me the difference in real world performance.

Well, my opinion is that torque is needed. :)

Our supercar rules dont allow to use rotary engines at the moment. But we will try to change it some day. After all, we managed to change rules in autocross class, so original displacement rotaries can be used.

I did talk with driver of that RX in last summer. Car was very new, they have just finished it. They had some minor problems with it, but other than that, its going just nicely. Like because of that 4wd drivesystem, he cant use handbrake in turns. But ill bet  that all those minor problems are gone now. Looking forward to see it run in next season! :)

What Grant Said about the technical aspects however that man is about as malignant and electronically aggressive as you\'ll find on the internet.  Probably the only reason he\'s not been banned from that forum is that he owns it.
