From what i\'ve been told you just undo the normal button, remove the spring inside and then fit the new knob. Supposedly as simple as that.
I\'ve just bought one to and so will be doing the same as you in a day or two

The button unscrews separately and will also allow you too remove the spring from
Inside tbh honest it\'s pointless as the standard handbrake is crap if you want it too lock up for skids get a hydro

to lock \'normally\' dont you have to screw it to lock (with the button in out position), then lift up.
as the spring is unclipped, it wont work 100% like normal.

Yup the handbrake doesn\'t work as normal
The idea is that once you push the button in it stays there giving you the same effect as a fly off handbrake but still leaves you a part too pull out to engage te ratchet mechanism too keep the handbrake on for parking

Ha ha the old friendly mot tester

nope, you don\'t, not even a friendly MOT tester, its basically exactly the same as a fly off handbrake the old Austins have, pull out to engage, push in to disengage, I had a dicky MOT tester who was going to fail me on it until one of the old boys who ran the place came out and made that comparison, so its all legal.

also, with the existing problem, make sure the rod that you have screwed the button to is still placed on the ratchet and ensure the handbrake handle is still on, the handle stops the button jiggling around and allowing the rod to come off the ratchet inside. Thats what happened to mine, after i put the handle back on, it worked lovely.
