Title: RX8 with RB25DET
Post by: yiug412 on January 23, 2012, 08:49:21 PM
Selling my rx8 to get another RX8. :p

It will be building from a rx8 with blown engine. Putting a RB25DET in it. Thanks to the deep transmission tunnel design the engine sits.quite far in. Hopfully wont destroy the handling too much. Will be running 300+hp this year. Will be a sleeper pretending its a 192 XD

Just wondering if anyone knows any similar project in the uk that has been done already?

For the price you can pick up blown engined rx-8\'s I recon its going to be a popular engine swap car.  A lot of kit for the money.  Good luck :)

Tinker-27 is putting in a VW engine.  I reckon you\'ll have an interesting time getting all the ancillaries to fit.  For some reason, I think it\'s the fact that the RB25 has the exhaust on the left hand side of the engine as it would be mounted in the car that makes me think that a 1JZ, where the exhaust is on the right as it is on the standard car, would be an easier conversion.

I think mounting the turbo on either will create an issue particularly given the length of the 6 cylinder block.  You\'d get more space if you moved the battery to the boot but it will be tight.  Steering rack will be interesting too.

I\'ve seen a couple of projects, the aforementioned VW block and there was someone who attempted to put an SR20 in one too but gave up but nothing with a 6 cylinder power plant in the UK.  Does violence to my principles replacing the Renesis with a 4 cylinder but at least with a big six you\'ll get proper power even if you get lots more understeer.

Yeah peter barber was had for a mug when he attempted too get a garage too install 1jz in his rx8 so project was abandoned was a shame tbh as pete is a genuine guy and if it wasn\'t for him I would never have owned an rx7

Will choose RB over SR anytime :) if i want the handling i would put a 13B T in it. Sound and torque from the RB is nice!

It is actually pete\'s old project. He had some trouble with the garage. Now i bought it and.put a RB in it.  Not doing it myself tho. Paying a garage to do it. Working closely to customise some parts tho.

Will be putting a giant bosch battery in the boot to try to counter the heavy front. Did think abouy 1JZ but RB was my dream when i was in highschool lol.

Yeah welcome to the Mazda Rotary Club.

There are a few people trying it in the US but nothing running yet.  It\'ll make a good drag racer, that\'s about it.

Just thinking... Would a 2.3 turbo from the Mazda 6 MPS or Mazda 3 MPS be an option? (just to keep it Mazda)

8\'s don\'t have a very big engine bay and the bulkhead protrudes in to it further than on a 7 which is a pain for decent engine positioning.

They do and I think it\'s Hinson in the US that are developing an install kit for LSx V8s. Good luck on dealing with them though as they can be a bit hit n miss from the posts I see on US forums.

I\'m back :)

Pure performance has gone bankrupt and owe loads people parts and money. luckily i manage to get my parts from them. it\'s zurawski motorsport doing the job now.

i have changed to rb25det neo. all things in just waiting for the hks clutch to come and bits of wiring. It will be interesting to see how the engine affected the handling.

the car should be 80-90 kg heavier and im surprised the engine is further back then i expected.
