Title: Switch to E10 fuel - are our cars ok?
Post by: m1tch on January 20, 2012, 09:11:11 PM
Hi guys,

There is going to be a switch from around 5% biofuel to 10% biofuel in normal fuels at some point, I know that you can get E85 fuel which has to be specially mapped for, but the new standard fuel rating will soon be E10

Do we have an issue? I know that there are some cars and bikes that won\'t be compatable with the new fuel.

Isn\'t it more lines and fuel pumps corroding on E85 ? Not sure at what percentage the corrosion is causing damage.

Could mean an uprated (even hard anodising) alloy fuel components and swapping lines and pumps over to more compatible stuff.

Well German motorists are boycotting the fuel even though its cheaper, main issue is that the rubber fuel links etc can degrade and then you get all sorts of rubbish getting into the system, plus injector O rings and they are causing lots of issues in smaller engines like lawn mowers as it corrodes the brass in the carbs

potentially cause problems with the AFRs on aggressively mapped engines, you need more fuel flow to keep the same afrs with that amount of biofuel percentage
