Title: TMIC to GReddy tube?
Post by: B.Martin on January 20, 2012, 02:38:09 PM
What have you all used? I measured up last night and the GReddy tube is 70mm and the ARC connection point is 45mm, which i quite a difference and i\'m struggling to find that kind of size reducer in straight form let along 90 degree bend. How have you all done it?

I used a 70mm to 50mm reducing elbow from these guys

What and then just clamped it, does the 5mm not cause any air leak?

edit - that company doesn\'t seem to do any silicone stuff anymore.

i reckon you would get away with 5mm, it is squishy pipe afterall

To be fair on mine its quite a good fit. If it was any smaller I would struggle to get it over the beed on the intercooler outlet. I had to trim it down a fair amount to get it to fit correctly too, as you have to get the intercooler sitting low enough to clear the bonnet when its closed.

I\'m considering buying a 45mm 90 degree bend, a 70>45mm reducer and a 70mm connecting pipe. I\'m pretty sure that will work okay, it\'s gonna be a litte more expensive but at least everything will be the correct sizes.

Im not sure you\'d get it in cause of the height restrictions mate. I had to chop a lot off the intercooler end of elbow I bought.

Perhaps I\'ll speak to Tasos see what he\'s done I expect to trim the 90 elbow but the connector is only 75mm long so that\'s not too bad, I\'m sure I\'ll find a way though. There is an fd sensor in the GReddy tube so I\'ve got to get that out first before I consider fitting it all, gives me plenty of time to plan my attack.

I\'d be tempted to leave the sensor in. Its a different thread to the FC one. From memory the FC one is smaller and BSP and the FD one is metric  fine thread. I had to drill out mine and re-tap it to suit the FD sensor so I could run my Apexi PFC. I\'m not too sure on the differences of the two sensors as in how they work with the stock ecu so you\'ll have to ask the question on here. Also you could do with a plug for the top of the sensor so you can wire it in properly. I didn\'t have one so had to solder onto the sensor inputs which isn\'t ideal.

I\'m sure there is a thread somewhere that says something about doing any mod on an FC requires 2 or 3 other mods to make it work, This is one of those! Its not as hard as it sounds mind so don\'t get out faced by it.

Oh no I won\'t, I\'m planning to get a induction kit and perhaps an exhaust as well, then I can fit them all together with the blitz ecu. That\'s my plan anyway.

I cheated,

When I got my intercooler copied and mine rebuilt - I had them change the outlet to 60mm - I think it was 54 or 56mm stock.  That means a 90 degree 76 to 60 reducer could be used :)

I have seen 90 degree reducers going from 76 to 54 or 56, but you may have to hunt for them.   Arc actually did an intake similar to the compression tube from Greddy, and presumably sold the silicon 90 to go with it - but I\'ve never seen one.

It\'s not exactly a plug and play swap - but I have to say it is worth it.

Oh yeah it\'s got to be alot better than the stock unit, I\'ll hopefully have it all done for around April.
