Title: 1988 FC EGI "virtually Mint" sadly selling
Post by: wheelynutz on January 17, 2012, 01:06:35 AM
Hi all, its with a heavy heart that i\'ve decided to part with my vitually mint Red EGI. Some of you may have seen us at meets (Simply Mazda, Beaulieu  & Rotorstock 8) and if you did you\'ll know what a stunningly clean car this is.

I garaged it up for winter when the tax ran out (Oct) but I really can\'t see me getting the time to enjoy this car in the coming summer.

The faults on this car are SO very very few (1 x cracked rear speaker cover), very minor wear to drivers seat, slow sunroof open/shut per usual. Virtually no visible rust top or bottom (only 1 tiny paint bubble on rear o/s arch) Underside fully waxoiled. Has corrosion/leak to power steering cooler pipe which will be fixed.

Rare totally straight car with no mods except Janspeed twin exhaust (sounds lovely!). Has full air pump pipe in place but it did fracture before garaging so needs sleeving.

Norm asp/Non turbo. Mileage circa 71000. This has been a summer Sunday runner for about last 10 years. Currently MOT has expired but will be MOT\'d for buyer. (Sorned for winter but can tax at buyers expense)

I challenge you to find a cleaner EGI than this one, anywhere! This is not a project just pure RX7 Heaven! hence the asking price

£ 2000  ovvno.

Also have a nice set of FD rims (&spacers) available to the buyer if wanted (was going to change the wheels in summer).

More detail and pics to follow asap.... but see the car in my signature for the mo\'

Sad to see your selling but good luck with the sale, it will however give somebody a good increasingly rare car :Thumbsup!

Had it not been for me buying an EGI many years ago and having lots of fun in it there would have never been a Mazdarotaryclub

Right now i have a bit of spare time i will go into a bit more detail.
The previous owner owned it for 8 years and was bought for his wife as a car that she could drive on some sunday\'s in the summer. In there ownership it only covered about 1500 miles in 8 years, was never driven in the rain and hasn\'t seen any since his and our ownership, apart from when we pick it up and a bit when we went to Simply Mazda. It was always kept in a warm dry garage and even if it wasn\'t on the road he would keep it all mot\'ed and when he got it he took off all of the rust and kept it waxoiled every 2-3 years.
The sunroof did rust a bit as per usual but he got that all sorted and fixed (its still a little slow), the headlights stopped working so he gave it to afr tuning to fix and they did fix it to a very good standard with a bill totaling £800 if i remember correctly.
This fc has been very well kept with money as no object, is in very good condition and very little rust.
The only faults that have happened in our ownership the rear washer and wiper have stopped working so that needs to be sorted.

When we also went to santa pod for rotorstock 8, we took the egi down the strip and it was giving out times that where factory and she did about 12 runs without fault. We also took her on shorham runway and she was very impressive and gave a 0-60 time of 8.4 seconds and 0-100 in 23.9.
I am now a rotary fan and it will always be my favorite engine and i will miss her very much when she is gone.
Also the front badge that was on it when we got her has now been removed as it didn\'t look right and wasn\'t standard.

Here are some more pics of her all shined up and at shows
Now if you don\'t like tones of pics look away now

Thanks clive, someone will defiantly be getting a increasingly rare car considering it is very close to stock and in such good condition.

So basically the egi made the rotary club :Thumbs-up
I will do a swap for your RX-4 though Clive :Laugh

Still looking for a good home and caring owner for our beautiful FC.

Replaced the corroded steering cooler pipe at the weekend and sh\'es had a little clean today, including the engine bay.

Will be sold with 12 month MOT. Sensible offers considered as we still have an option on another car.

It really is a shame I have too many cars as this would have suited my wife just fine being that it\'s standard and a lovely car too drive

If my mr2 and Subaru impreza wagon sell quickly and you still have this I\'ll give you a shout

Cheers, fingers crossed for us both then. It is a cracker but to be honest I really can\'t see us getting the use out of it so we are working at parting with this and our standard(ish) MX5 to get a beastly Turbo\'d 5. Hopefully, fate will lend a hand...

Once the MX5 is back to standard we might be selling also the bobs and whistles to fund a an FD so, we might not be off the Rotary scene. :yes

This car is unexpectedly re-available. I had arranged a swap for a turbo\'d MX5 which has fallen through.

Now taxed till July and MOT\'d till March 2013 and will soon to become immortalised in print in a "Rotary feature" in the next issue of Car Magazine.

In view of the exceptional condition of this car i\'m looking for £2000.

Will be at Brooklands with MRC on 21st April if you fancy a look...

Thanks Val.

I\'ll try to get a more specific history prepared I the next day or two with the aid of my lad James (wheelynutz). I\'ll see if he can phone you too to answer any specific questions as he is FAR FAR more knowledgeable than I!.

Meanwhile, I re-iterate that this car is in exceptionally good condition. To my limited knowledge 7\'s fail either due to engine or rust, both expensive to remedy. Although showing 71k, this mileage has been amassed very gradually and so i\'d be very surprised if there were any serious water seal or rotor tip wear issues. The engine doesn\'t seem to miss a beat. There is no obvious compression or running issues or water loss. I have read that, cared for, these cars can make 100k without rebuild.....this may well be one such example.

On the rust front, this car is exceptional and should not be confused with the many expensive "projects" that are to be found. There are no significant issues structure or bodywork issues.

Re: Electrics: a slowish sunroof and non working rear wiper. As i don\'t take her in rain i\'ve not bothered with the latter (but might investigate now). I put the slow roof down to old age (my parts don\'t function as quickly as they did 24 years ago either lol!).

She is a real gem but she is what she is .... an old lady who\'s in great shape for her age.

Steve
Title: try me...

As I think I said, i was planning to p/x this car with a turbo\'d MX5 but it fell through.

One way or another, the funds from this car will be recycled in the shape of another vehicle so... I might be open to decent p/x\'s..... show me yours and i\'ll show you mine ;).

I\'m in no hurry but for a hassle free quickish cash deal £1800 would press my buttons... I also have £300\'s worth of FD wheels and spacers to play with.

Quote from: jorgea;821988Is this car still for sale?  If yes, let us know here at http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com

Although we no longer own the car, the current owner IS selling and it\'s currently on ebay here:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200747901365?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_1042wt_287 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200747901365?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_1042wt_287)

Not owning the car, i have no longer have a "bias" and so would say that if you are seeking an FC you will NOT find a better car than this, especially at the asking price of £1995. The car is in superb condition inside, out and underneath. It flew through it\'s MOT in April and as such a superb "straight" example of the FC it was featured in the May 2012 issue of CAR Magazine.

I DO still have the FD wheels and spacers for sale.
