As per the title really, if you found this under your FC what would you do?

They\'re on the inner sill on the back edge of the nearside. Quoted £250 to fix. (This could see me becoming an owner ;))
Your opinions greatly appreciated.
Its the usual place the FC goes, also check around the rear arches, mine was worse and its been fixed with no issues.
The price actualy sounds O/K to me as this will involve a fair bit of cutting, fabrication and welding to sort out
patched up worse, price seams ok aswell...
Get it done lad, it cost me more than that for new arches on a Nova!!!
or if your like the previous owners of my rx4 get slap happy with lots of fiberglass bringing compound and filler :Hammer no seriously dont do that!
£250 for welding sounds a bit high, but I guess it depends where you live and who you know (just spent £1500 on welding my rx4 saving her!) its probably a days work looking at your pics?
£250 is not a bad price for the repairs when you take into account materials and labour, mind you I live in London so thats cheap
Cheers
PS, anyway spill the beens what sort of FC is it etc, etc, we need details to convince you that buying it is a great idea
T2 Gen... 3? I think... no bumper strips down the side.
Oh if its turbo 2 you HAVE to rescue her, can we be treated to some more pics perhaps?
Won\'t be too bad I would have thought.
I had a guy who works for Audi look at the floor rust on my FC, he said he could fix it no problems. He wanted to weld a plate over it - as he does at work!!! :rollin
Make sure they cut out the bad and not hide it! :cheers
I do this work all day it all comes down to what there doing.
If there just cleaning and putting a plate on the bottom its a high quote.
If there cutting or cleaning the top and bottom and putting a bottom and top plate in then its a fairly good quote.
Most of that will be welding time. It quite hard to get good neet welds under a car as the hot rod is always trying to go down. Hence a top and bottom plate. To get good welds on it.
I know on mine there is no rust but im putting a new bottom plate that runs from front of sills to back and a plate inside that does the same to protect it then undersealing bottom then undersealing and spraying the inside and then wax oiling in the sills and any holes around the joins i can find.
Grinder welded a whole new floorpan into his car lol ive got mine all welded up my an MOT welder and then Waxoyled the underside, should last a while!

Soon... ;)
yeah mine was rather rusty wasnt it
My old White fc had this issue but as you know I gave up as the floor just started falling apart
Okay, so I\'m going for a viewing. Specifics to look out for on the car (1980 T2 looks in stock condition) ?
Chances are I\'ll take it at some point the following week/or two but I really want to know what I\'m letting myself in for.
As much as it\'s not a great indication I\'ve been watching youtube vids of Rexs with lumpy idles (possible tip degredation), reading your threads and comments regarding rust prone areas and scanning the net for the costs of service items as it\'ll be the first thing on my list upon purchase.
Cheers guys and girls... and animals.
if the car is cheap enough then why worry about ;)
if its a 4 figure car then it might be time to walk away from it
but if its a couple of hundred quid .. could be worth the gamble
is the car a turbo or EGI ?

So... Purchased pending payment/collection.
I need to find someone with a trailer to get it from guildford to swindon then it\'s a case of getting a windscreen wiper, brake hoses, an exhaust gasket and a trip to an MOT station and I\'m laughing.
Who knows, I may make it to Japfest yet...
:Tongue1:rollin:Thumbs-up:Hammer:driving
blimey , factory front splitter aswell !! :D
Awesomesauce, looks pretty good! Welcome to the crew known as \'the FC vultures\' ;)
FC Vultures? Why do you say that? :Tongue1
We\'re not all Grinder :Laugh
And yes Grinder, its got the standard splitter. Cars seems standard bar an aftermarket temp gauge and single exit exhaust
it looks nice ;)
did you get the rust sorted , or buy as it ?
No, buying as is.. will sort the rust myself.
Agreed on the smallest four figure sum you can buy a car for which I don\'t think is too bad for a "dream" car.
It\'s not as bad as my \'97 Nissan!

Stick some FC parts in the for sale section and see what happens!
I\'m only joking anyway we\'re a lovely bunch ;)
hang on , so you dont know about the vultures , but you seem to know about my buying style :rollin :wave
Everyone knows Stu, it\'s common knowledge.
Also it\'s in your sig.
yeah , the mods have a "thing" about modding my sig every so often
Brett started it and its now an initiation thing .. all new mods have to change it :(
although , it would seem i stopped being cheap in 2010 ;)
You mean you\'ve had no new mods since 2010?
ive still been buying random stuff .. maybe they got bored of changing it ;)
I meant new moderators ;)
