Title: Hurley\'s rx-777
Post by: richrx on January 13, 2012, 05:14:16 PM
Hi

I\'ve been doing some poking around various sites and come across Hurley\'s rx-777 engine, which has caught my attention.... Now I understand for the power gain vs money it\'s not going to ever be a popular engine choice, but I can\'t seem to find any info on it Anywwhere else, or even one person who has ever went for the engine....

Does anyone here have any idependant ( of hurleys) experiance or links???  I don\'t have an rx just now :( just looking for future projects/ideas :)

Thanks

Richard

P.s venturing from the 2nd gen section is scary :)

Wasn;t that the turnkey 20B conversion they were offering?  I\'m not sure if they ever actually had any customers for that?

A few people on here have done the conversion themselves, or had it done by specialists.

All depends what you are after in the long run - a 20B conversion is very involved and generally very costly.

Looking at the site it seems it was a 20b engine with triple carbs to give power and fuel economy of 24mpg, power of around 250bhp apparently? Alternativly you can simply port or swap the turbo on the 13b and get even more power for less, rotaries aren\'t ment to be there for fuel economy.

It looks that way, I have found a few customers of their rotor tips and rebuild kits(all stateside) etc, but no one seems to have engines rebuilt by them or buy their specialist engine.... I noticed the cars they have for sale appear to be the same for the past few years too...

I liked the idea of a 3 rotor fully fitted, they have the price at £5.00 , I\'m guessing that\'s £5,000 . Not too bad if you need a rebuild and are looking for a reliable engine( n/a\'s tend to go longer, IF it\'s built well)

The £5 is a printout of the specs of the engine :)

Well I\'ve had a street ported engine from them and it\'s sitting with no problems after two years of drift abuse

Also when I served my apprenticeship working for Mazda we used hurlers exchange engines for every rotary that required a rebuild as it worked out much cheaper than paying for la our and parts too strip and rebuild the engine etc

A standard turbo II 13b engine will produce almost 300bhp if you boost to 0.9bar, if you don\'t boost it up it will get around 24mpg....I don\'t see the benefit?

If they can do it all in for the price they are quoting then I will run the qtr naked at the next Rotorstock...

What for the £5 quoted on their site?  If they can do it for that I\'d race Brett down the 1/4 at Rotorstock.  One condition, we wear trainers!

Ha ha, I\'d refund both of you if you didn\'t :p

No doubt it won\'t set the world on fire, well might be interesting in an FB ;) but it would certainly be different, which is what I like about the idea :)

But untill I get 10k to waste on a car it won\'t happen :(

Can\'t wait to get another rotary though ;)

P.s I\'d rather pay for the Tripple rotor conversion than put in any piston engine ;)

I\'ve another article at home on it, maybe. Those where are coming from? The car was sold now? I saw and posted info times ago here...
