Title: Battery Question
Post by: BinoX on January 12, 2012, 06:07:25 PM
Hello everyone,

I have recently bought a new battery for my Turbo II (as the old one has finally given up)

It is a Yuasa battery, but it is a little unusual (to me)

There is a red pipe in one side and a red bung in the other? (Pics attached)

Am I supposed to leave these in there or take them out or what? Are they there for some specific purpose? ("Halfords Finest" don\'t seem to know)

Sorry that my few posts on here seem to be asking for help, but I should be more active once the car is fully up and running.

Thanks in advance :)

some batteries are completely sealed, some are not (ie your one)
only seen these batteries in mercs (personally) and the tube is vented to atmosphere (not boot atmosphere but actually a pipe run to outside of car)

i\'d assume you can swap the bung and tube so shorter distance to atmosphere depending which way your batter sits.

Yes - they are just \'gassoff\' vents and are interchangeable.

The Stock TII battery box actually has a vent that runs towards the front of the car, as they can \'seal\' quite well with the lid on.

It\'s only there to prevent build up of Hydrogen gas if the battery is overcharged.

I have the same battery in my car - just left the vents as they are

Thanks both of you :)

Never had an end vented battery before, just wanted to make sure before accidentally damaging the battery and/or myself
