Title: Your hypothetical drift engine!
Post by: leefitz on January 10, 2012, 01:44:30 PM
Well all,
I was sitting day dreaming about heading drifting in my car (as usual) and I was wondering what I could achieve if I had a bit more power! As pure usual I went into dreaming about what engine I would like. Although it’s from a non specific point of view as I don’t possess the technical knowledge of turbos, ports or even possible N/A engine achievements. But it’s always been in the same direction, 3 rotors or 4, turbo or N/A.

So this leads me to my question

"What is your ideal, hypothetical drift engine?"

The more technical the better!! Bonus points for the biggest drift nerd!!!
:burnout

20B bridge port, GT42R turbo, lightened balanced clearenced rotating assembly, water, methanol injection system pre turbo, Haltech ECU, 3x1000cc ID injectors, 3x2000cc ID injectors, aeromotive FPR, aeromotive fuel pump and filters, PWR charge cooler with CC radiator mounted at the rear of the car, AN fuel lines throughout with AN8 aero fittings. some king of triple plate clutch, fuel cell mounted in the car for a huge diffuser underneath the car where fuel tank normally is. gearbox?? something that strong and wont break, roll cage with gear box mounted too it and rear subframe mounted to roll cage also, rose jointed suspension and steering components where possible, big brakes upgrade because you might as well with it being so powerful. ROTA GTR Ds wheel, i think, as wide as on the back, wide as possible on the front, chop the front of the car for tube frame,

getting bored now and iv all ready exceeded my theoretical budget of £20,000 with out even buying suspensin, body work, paint, and stickers.

light weight doors bonnet and boot lid etc etc

maybe when iv won the lotto or iv sold a kidney or something.......

i will just stick to my RX4 for the time being.

oh forgot Hydro handbrake.

Quad Rotor PP N/A Rotary, ceramic coated housings, balanced high-compression rotors, 55mm throttle bodies, tubular manifolds, some beefy twin plate clutch, six speed quaife/hewland sequential transmission, locked diff

Beefy coilovers, gnarly brakes, hydraulic handbrake and those kumho tyres that you can get to smoke different colours!

Probably in an RX8 shell.  :D

Major nerd points to Grant!!  Can\'t help but think you are building that engine lol.  Sounds like something along the lines of what I was thinkin. Quad rotor just reeks of mad mike, and would seem like a copy cat but dam it sounds good. Would he a hard one to beat anyway!!

Ha cheers so what do I win for being the biggest geek? If I had £20,000 spare I would get that motor built for sure.

I think you\'d be better off with a peripheral ported 13b with an antilag system akin to that of the Prodrive P1.

Mad-Mike takes the american route of increasing the displacement as an easy fix.

Or use an M.Y.T engine... it\'s technically a rotary engine 9if not a wankel) ;)

Well I just took a look at the M.Y.T. Engine and what a crazy design!! Mental in fact.

So Grant, award goes to you! You should apply this to your car do next day out

A proof of your knowledge indeed lol

i think the problem with PP\'d N/A engines is that you\'d have to have a totally balls out which is cool, but hard. Detuned big V8 is the way to go even if they do sound :censored::censored::censored::censored:

i just want to stay 13b and go all balls out sideways... i have seen plenty do it and it would cost less if things go wrong i guess... but to be honest i think engine swap would be better as its cheaper in the long run... strip a ls400 or just turbo a mx5 engine like a lad has done... that seems fast enough and fun enough and thats what its all about

OK, what about RX-8 running gear, keep the stock ECU for the 8 with its fuel cut to protect the engine and you can Drift all you like for not a lot of money. I know people who are doing exactly that with their 8's, so much cheaper than sticking a boinger in  :great:
