What size is the induction inlet hose? I\'m not sure if thats its official name, i mean where you connect a potential aftermarket airfilter to the hose with the AFM on it, i seem to remember asking before but can\'t find the thread. We all know i\'m tight and i\'ve found a decent looking filter on the eBay, but i wan\'t it to be at least close to the size i need so i can get an adapter to fit it without to much hassle.
Thanks
Edit - i seem to think it was 80mm, is that correct?
Anyone know?
I can measure it over the weekend if you like
That would be a great help Prof, i\'m looking at being able to pick up a greddy universal thing for a good price. If i can get one thats not so hard to fit, then thats obviously a bonus.

Worse case you might need some kind of reducer - the AFM inlet is quite narrow !
The HKS induction kit for the FC comes with a reducer.
Yes, but i\'m far to tight to buy the full £200 kit :p
i\'m still unsure of this, anyone know the size of the AFM inlet area?
Im pretty sure it\'s 2.5" don\'t quote me on that though.. So im not much help really!! :rollin
I got the AFM out of the garage - just looking for my blimin calipers to properly measure it now - worse comes to the worse I will resort to an old fashioned tape measure - will update when I get home tonight...
Your a good man Prof, my good friend Tassos thinks its around 70mm, but that was off the top of his head. You two would get on like a house on fire, the 2 of you are like walking FC dictionarys.
i have to admit - i thought they were 4 inch !! LOL
i could do with knowing though , i have a random cone filter in the garage that i could use
what happens ( out of interest ) if it does have the correct air return pipe on it .. can you just stick a small filter on the pipe ?
Quote from: grinder;808690i have to admit - i thought they were 4 inch !! LOL
Did you get confused with something else Stu? :Giggle
yeah the girth of something else !!
Ok - so the inlet (narrow end) of the AFM is 62mm (there is a mm or two of lip - but size you\'re hose for 62mm
The outlet size is 76mm.
So I need a 76mm air filter? I\'m sorry if I\'m a little thick about this, but could you explain it a little more for me.
No you want 62mm the 76mm outlet connects to the turbo inlet duct.
I win for my 2.5" guess :Giggle
No Ben you need the narrow end (inlet).
Ade
Ah right, gotcha. Thanks guys.
Yep - Narrow end - the HKS kit has a larger sized filter, and has a small reducer onto the airflow meter - I think that\'s where people get confused.
I think 62mm is something like 2.375 inches or something similar, but calc says 2.44 inches
Alright guys, hope all is well.
I\'m now the owner of an HKS induction kit, i\'ve measured it up and the filter end is 95mm. Reading through this thread again i\'ve confused myself, the AFM end is 62mm right?
I know its written above but whilst searching for reducer hoses and adapter kits i came accross some original HKS adapter items that claim the adapter kit is for an inlet size of 70mm on all RX-7\'s?
Here is the site i got the info from - http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/partdetails/HKS/Intakes/Air_Filter_Adapters//1754
I\'m just not sure about it now, i found some AFM adapters on ebay for the FC that look like this?
I just don\'t get how it all works i\'m afraid and of course i don\'t want to buy the wrong thing, i though the AFM connection was circular like the air filter connection and that a simple reducer hose would sort it no problem. I\'m trying to get the sizes right so i can get colour coded hoses to match everything else in the engine bay! I can provide some pics of the air filter if needed so everyone can join in the puzzle :)
Thanks for any potential help.
That adaptor would be for the EGI or flapper style air flow meter, not the turbo II, you need something like below (although make sure you get the right reduction!)

Look up \'hose reducer\' do the HKS mushrooms really have such a massive outlet?
Here is the filter upside down (mesh and foam removed)

This is with the little extension bit removed as well.

And this is the extension bit its self, which doesn\'t reduce at all ;)

It\'s such a difference between what is more or less 100mm and the 63mm! That\'s why I\'m just checking on that as 62 seems very small and hpf offered adapters for 70mm to fit rx7 afm\'s! I don\'t really want to be removing the air box to measure it all up, at the same time
I don\'t want Mr Prof to think I am calling him incorrect, I am just asking for confirmation as it doesn\'t seem to add up.
:o
Thats just a very big filter lol the OEM air flow meter is the next restriction after the S bend in the induction pipe, they aren\'t usually as massive as that:

Next you will be asking for prof to come and fit it for you...
Wouldn\'t it be easier for you to take a measuring stick and measure the pipe in your car or, alternatively you could do some simple math by measuring the circumference of said pipe with a bit of string, measure that piece of string, and use the equation where C (circumference) = 3.142(aka known as pie) x diameter
So your equation would be diameter = circumference (length of string) diverse by 3.142 (pie) this would tell you your exact outside diameter of pipe so you know you are right.
I\'ll just remove the airbox and measure it, i was just trying to avoid doing it thats all.
