Title: Help with Ancestry
Post by: Lisa on January 05, 2012, 09:04:44 PM
Hi

I am logged on to Ancestry.com and I am trying to find my maternal grandmother.

She was born in 1906 in Lambeth her name was Florence Elizabeth Gager.

She married my grandfather in Lambeth in 1924 and had two daughters, my mother and my aunt.

However, she left them and my mother (Born 1929) and my aunt (Born 1926)went into a children\'s home.

My grandfather went to on remarry in 1934.

The problem is I cannot trace my maternal grandmother after her marriage to my grandfather.  I have tried to trace her under maiden name of Gager and also under her married name of Bunce and she is not listed.

Obviously she might have remarried and taken on a different surname, but would I not still be able to trace her?

Anyone have any ideas of where else on line I might be able to search?

If you know the area they lived in, you could check the parish church records - there may have some info of births, deaths, marriages, baptisms etc.

You might also check the newspaper archive at colingwood for obits / marriages etc.

There is also the online census of 1891 which I think is free.

My Wife did a short course at local library, she found it very useful and not expensive.
