Title: RX8 Engine \'Knock\'
Post by: rx-dave on January 02, 2012, 06:54:41 PM
Strange one this!! Had a call from a local RX8 owner / friend about a noisy engine, it was turning over a lot slower than usual and sounded like a bottom end knock on a piston engine when running but it seemed to run fine.
I did a compression test with good results, low 7\'s on all faces.........any ideas??
Dave.

Bearing failure is very likely cause of this.
Every RX8 engine we pull apart has major bearing wear.
We strongly believe it is the type of oil being used as 5/30 dexelia is just too thin.
10/40 is the way to go.
