Title: Car importing
Post by: kiwimazda on December 29, 2011, 08:39:24 AM
Has anyone done one from NZ to UK
I can find plenty of garbage about going the other way.
I want to do a container load. Its a car and spares so it wont be 40 feet worth. I cant do roll on off as most of the bits wont fit in the car and will get nicked.
Import/duty
Tax

Not worried about getting a V5 here for the car(race only)
And the value of the car is only (cough cough) £1500
Cheers
Brian

I\'ve only imported to Cyprus from the UK, if there is a return trip its going to be easy. I used an agent that did everything though, writing this i\'ve realised i\'ve not actually given you any usefull information. Merry Chirstmas.

Ahh, i am with you! I am not sure there is a way around that mate. I knew a few of the irish importers from the Jdm auctions. They even got stopped from having "items" in the cars themselves for this very reason!

Incredible to think you have to pay full Vat on 2nd hand items especially when the greedy ******** have done nothing!!

I think VAT liability is waived on anything over a certain age, or that you have owned for some time.  Can\'t remember exactly though!

Cyprus is different import tax wise, you are allowed 1 duty free car per \'family\' apparently.

I see different but I have no other experience. Import tax here is based on age, cc and mileage.

I bet there is an agent that can do it all
For you and knows the ins and outs.

No VAT waiver for old cars/ spares.

Value of load (car plus spares) + shipping x 10% = duty.
Value of load + shipping + duty x 17.5% = VAT.

ie, they charge duty on shipping costs and charge VAT on your duty! Flippin racket.

If you can get any paperwork to suggest it is all your stuff and you are just bringing it here, do it. If not try and get receipts that suggest you bought it all for much cheapness.

Ownership isn\'t a problem. It\'s the value I am more concerned about. It\'s only an old vauxhall that I have had in storage for 20 years.

Ok, I\'m not sure about bringing your own stuff here. The above figures relate to purchasing from overseas and importing.

If you can prove you\'ve owned it for some time then I don\'t think there\'s anything like as much to pay because you\'re just moving your stuff around.
