Title: removing the cat
Post by: Kenji on December 19, 2011, 12:19:16 AM
Short question: if I remove the cat on my FD (engine stock, RE-Amemiya filter, catback exhaust, running a little rich on the entire rev range on stock ECU), will the engine exploderize, or will it be fine?

i would personally say that without a remap this is too much and would risk the engine running lean.

When you say the engine is running rich through the rev range, have you evidence of this ?? wideband.

Stock ECU is fine with most the mods you listed except the cat removal. I would be very careful especially in this cold weather, this is exactly how i blew my first engine, took the cat off and 3 days later one cold morning BOOOOOOOM

OK, so I guess I won\'t remove the cat then. Cheers.

Oh, and yes, I have done a few dynoruns with a wideband. Across the entire rev range she\'s running a little bit rich.

So to de-cat the motor, would you be best taking the decat pipe to the mappers, and fitting there and then?

as long as you\'re not boosting hard you should be able to drive the car with the decat. The decat raises the boost pressure which the ecu has no map for, hence the engine dying
