Here is my RX8.
We have been trying to extract as much power as possible from the Renesis engine without the use of forced indutction.
So far we have done 6 engines types with various types of porting and this is a vid of our latest which is fully bridgeported.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXCHKGHq-jc
Power is unknown on this engine as yet but we have had 254hp flywheel with a previous engine. Most I have ever seen from stock engine is 219 hp.
Midrange power feels so much stronger.
How do you bridge-port a side port ???? Or am I being daft and its just time with an die grinder :Giggle
Shaun
It\'ll be interesting to see more on this and see if you can get anywhere near the power of a turbo or supercharger.
Carl needs to push the boy dries of the 4 port too lol.
Those figures are impressive
I remember reading an article that Amemiya was claiming these king of figures from a porting job and their ReDom map. But their claims where wheel HP so it seems that the UK is moving in the right direction

Congratulations with this Carl look forward to seeing the figures
I\'m guessing there\'s no chance of seeing the ports?
Is this with standard rotors and e shaft? No lightened internals
Also what does it rev up to?
Kris
sounds sweet, what mods are done to the intake/fueling
I rev to 9500 rpm with this.
The rotors and E shaft are stock but we have done some trick things with the seals too.
All of the inlet ports are bridgeported with the rotor housings matched to the bridges.
Fueling and intake have two mods which I am not prepared to give away.
We have built quite a few ported engines for customers now but this one is the most extreme I have done in my car as yet.
If you want to see what it is like I am happy to take anyone out in the car.
Brap Brap Brap Brap Brap, that is all :)

I am not keen on showing the ports as yet due to other tuners wanting to do as we have done.

If you are prepared to have your engine rebuilt again ( for a large fee:Giggle) I can really go to town on the porting we have already done for you.:mmmm

All Mazda rotary engines have side inlet ports so the work is similar to previous engines but also has to take into account the different positons of the seals in the Renesis engine.
Having done a Renesis triple in the past I am now working on a Renesis Quad.

I have been planning it for ages. We learnt alot from the one we did for Pete Barber and have also learnt alot about porting these engines now.
Time to put it all into practice for the road.
Would be awesome if it was possible :D

We can speak of further things once my warranty for the current rebuild is up lol.
still happy with what i got but some bridging would be nice... (even though at the time you refused)

Carl refused to do a bridge?! He\'s the one to normally suggest it. He must have been poorly.
am running a 4 port RX8 and at the time he refused on grounds of terrible fuel economy... plus as i understand mine was only the second 4 port that he had done.
good to see your still experimenting Carl. On the Kit car which had an original unported 6 port engine that hadnt been rebuilt at all, we managed 251 at the fly on re worx dyno which is quite a conservative dyno. That was with a home made exhaust (89db static), big air filter and a Motec ecu as the only mods, so there is a little more to be had from the stock engine.
Excellent, Mr.Hayward. :) Looking forward to see what you will do next :)
Ummm quad?????? Loving the sound of it lolll I guess, it\'s a time to give you a call and discuss this adventure. I wish, I had sold my triple and started on my Quad, but, I guess I would have to wait for few years before I embark on this project!!!

Not knowing much about the rx8 engine, have you bridge ported the 6 port or a 4 port??

Bridgeported the 6 port.
Makes alot of difference to the power coming in earlier.

That\'s amazing. Remember a thread on ausrotary where they were discussing a bridges 6port.
Would this technically he classed as a quad bridge?

There are six bridges.
Have you managed to do much to the exhaust ports too?
Time for me to look at renesis ports and work out where you would put them
Out of interest will these kinds of porting mods work for Series II (eventually, when we\'re out of warranty) :D

Yes they will work on any Renesis engine.
what an amazing develope for the rx8! must of taken a lot of developement to get to a street version, do you leave the roller barrels in? have done anything to them?
would love to see picture\'s, and to be the first awesome work :Ladys-man
Souns awesome Carl, great to see you leading the RE tuning scene and taking it further :cheers
Is the standard ecu still being used? Or are you using a seperate engine management along side the rx8 ecu for the rest I the car?

It doesn\'t put 251 out now, maybe 151 if it\'s lucky...:Giggle
I\'d be very interest if you have a dyno chart to see the torque curve, thinking about experimenting a bit more with our race engine (P.S, will a 3-rotor Renesis price give me heart attack?)
Inlet manifold has been modified.
I will get a torque curve on this fairly soon.
3 rotor is expensive yes. it\'s not just the custom bits for the engine but the manifolds and throttle bodies and engine management. It all adds up.
I have stock ecu on the RX8 with tweeks!

Price for a bare engine would do me if you could give me a ballpark figure? We\'re already running a DTA S80 on the RX8 motor, and a manifold wouldn\'t be a problem ;)
