I\'m a dreamer and I struggle to keep faith when something goes bad, I start to look at alternatives, pros, cons, comparative figures, does anyone else do this?
How do you all keep faith in your Rotary?
The best two things to think about is that if something goes wrong then use the opportunity to improve, and secondaly what else is there that you can seriously get that will give the same bang for buck thrill?
Thats mine....
Regards
Carl
I don\'t know any other stock engine that can get 153bhp per litre of displacement :)
Or rev to 8,500 rpm before internals need to be modified.

I do just this ;)
All cars will need a new clutch or expensive tyres. Change to a
\'better\' alternative Naaaa you know your going to want to modify that too so it becomes the same reson you would have moved in the first place.
Stick with your number 1 choice - you know it makes sence :Thumbsup!

This sums it up for me. Touch wood mine hasn\'t gone wrong yet, but it doesn\'t get used much anymore. I often think about getting rid of it/her for something I can use more but nothing comes close when you compare them. Also opening the garage door always helps too, the sight of it still excites me:). Sad as it is I end up talking to it when I\'m going into the garage to get some beer out of the fridge!

Yeh - he should probably have added the rider "for under 20K" - because let\'s be real - those cars are way outside almost all of our budgets ;)
Actually I suspect that the Peugeot Quasar could probably have qualified - although it was never really stock - it produced 600BHP from a 1.6L

Well if the piston engine was clever enough to use 2 combustion cycles per revolution im sure they would be more efficient, shame that they make the most power at TDC meaning that none of the power can be transmitted to the crank at that point, they also have valves in the way of the air and fuel mix :2Rolleyes
What Carl said! You\'ll struggle to find a better driving experience for the money.

Ah once I\'ve fitted these belts and got it running again I\'ll probably fall back in love, but then at the same time I also know she needs a new clutch as well. My problem is I haven\'t got to enjoy her anywhere near as much as I\'d like to have, then I think when I go bal to England can I really afford to run her daily? I could sell her save a bit and get something like an Evo, although the running costs aren\'t cheap they\'re alot cheaper than the FC and probably much easier to live with daily without many of the draw back.
Know what I mean?

Ive got a Volvo V40 as my daily now, rx7 is off the road as usual, think it did about 850 miles last year to and from the garage for the MOT and a few trips around town to check that it wasn\'t leaking fluid.
Thing is i can\'t afford 2 cars, not considering i really need my own place as well. I\'m sure you\'ll agree with the statement that the FC isn\'t the best daily driver you can have, fuel consumption aside its not the most practical thing and i have a dog as well!
Quote from: m1tch;801395Rotaries produce more noise and flames :) im in :D
Nail on head dude, flames ftw
i still like rotary but reality is that i cant keep it for very long before dues to some family committment, as you can see here, after 4 years i sold my FC, i still come around here every so often :)
woww....i cant even remember i registered since 2002, seems a very long time....lol
im a stresshead when stuff goes wrong, but im learning to train myself now! been 2 weeks since my throwout arm cradle snapped.... had new part a week.... still havent fixed it cause if i force myself, ill hate it and cause some damage.... so do it when i feel happy and right and the force is balanced and restored to normal! lol
I got out of rotaries for over a year, but i think as mentioned elsewhere, for the $ i literally dont think there is a comparison, in any area, looks, performance or handling!
Quote from: jetpilot;801619I got out of rotaries for over a year, but i think as mentioned elsewhere, for the $ i literally dont think there is a comparison, in any area, looks, performance or handling!
I noticed reliability wasn\'t mentioned. I\'m very intrigued by an Evo III though, I mean in my case we could compare it to my FC. Stock cost is very similar, it has awd with a 60/40 rear/front power balance, compared to obviously rwd, the FC is down in power by about 50 BHP, i just think an Evo III would make a better daily driver than my FC. I\'ve also got a thing for (dare is say it) the classic impreza, but only the import or type r 2 door version.
If you want something reliable, buy a Honda, but it wont full fill one of the criteria mentioned above $ for $.
Its a story i have told many times on here, i went to a track day in my first Rx7, i was with a chap with a brand new at the time E46 and brand new at the time 911 turbo! They were both gutted that my £6k ish 10 year old Rx7 got 100% more attention than there many thousands NEW cars! And the chap in the M3 was more gutted that he couldnt even stay with me on the track!
$ for $ they just cant be beat imho!
They don\'t make them like they used to :)
Rotor = Win.
That is all.
I don\'t have the budget for an FD, so that\'s out the question. I\'d be interested in properly comparing an Evo iii with an FC. I\'m gonna assume no has the experience of both on here? If you do please shout up.
Loved the rotary but in the end family came first, as it should.
For me it was an expenditure that i did not need, you need a release in life and the rotary was it for me, however once the kids came along it all changed.
BMW X5 now :( but plenty of room and returns 30+ mpg.
Have said to the wife that should we ever win the lottery Number 1 on the list is to get my old rx7 back without delay !!!!! :D
I\'m certainly being pulling into an Evo craze.
I much prefer the evo 6 only cus of the styling but my mate had a evo 4 with nearly 300hp unbelievable performance!
I loved the Evos and always planned on getting a black Evo 5 or 6, until one of my 25 year old nephews friend got an evo 7. It put me right of them as i am afraid to say he is your typical chav bull s*******, my evos got 400+ hp and can beat anything type thing, all you see on his fb profile is things like, evo 1 - ferrari 0...
Funny what can put you off a car!
I have driven a few evos, so quick up to 80 ish but they seem to hit a brick wall and just slow down then!
I know what your saying evo`s and scoobs tend to have that chav label attatched to `em as well as old skool ford cossies, im inlove with these cars but because of the chavyness will never own one.
Scoobs are now a definite chav transport, evos are not too bad in general as they still retain quite a high value.
I think old school Cossies have come full circle and are now safe to own again! I havent even seen a Sierra Cossie for years let alone be driven by a chav!
Yeah I\'m with jetpilot here, I wouldn\'t get a subaru due to the chav image. I think I could pull off an Evo iii as they\'re just old school and cool, or a 7-8-9 as I\'m not keen on the 4-5-6 rear end. Sounds gay I know but if I\'m buying a car I want one I like 100% lol!
So , back on topic. I\'ve lost faith in the justice system.

You mean you had faith in the first place?
Wait a sec... The original topic is what we\'re discussing Trind!!!
What do you think of an Evo compared to an FC3S?
Mate if you are needing the power of the Evo but the practicaility of an estate just buy one of my cars, the Volvo V40 is based on the Mitsu Charisma chassis, all Evo 1-3 parts bolts directly on :) few V40s are RWD, some are AWD :D

Driving an Evo3 people will just think your broke chav with no money to afford a good one.:Giggle;) only joking.
You
WILL want more power out of the car eventually and this
WILL cost you more than what your FC would.
Trind have you accepted my friend request on xbox yet?
Well my FC\'s cost will be around the 7k mark including the car, should be well over 500bhp....on standard internals :) Whats that you say? You need to spend £2k on forged internals to run boost in your inefficient piston engine? Never mind :rollin *spends money on fueling* :D
Have owned an Evo 3 / 6 and 8, very good cars but build quality is not so good.
I would say though that i could probably rebuild a piston engine myself with all the fancy bits easier than a rotary, even though there would be more parts
i meant the bodywork is not too tough, when you shut the door there is nothing there, obviously to do with keeping the weight down :-)

Ive watched the Atkins rotary rebuild video, I was like....looooong bolts, front iron, front rotor, front housing, centre plate, e-shaft, rear rotor, rear housing.....clean parts, check tolerances, put on new parts, new rubber seals, reverse what you just took apart, tighten down the loooong bolts lol seems the hardest part of the rebuild was the decipher which one of the oil control rings had the \'cream\' colour tab on it :rollin
Although for easy to put together engines nothing realy beats a 2 stroke engine

A daily driven car is not going to be running 500 BHP like your FC though Mitch, what you said about the daily driver is correct but at the moment I can\'t afford 2 cars. This is the biggest reason for my change of heart, out here the FC is perfect.... I have a merc Vito for everyday and the FC (when fixed) is for weekend driving. The truth is I\'ve hardly been able to use her due to lack of funds, with petrol, tax and insurance being even higher in the uk it\'s only going be used less (plus the fact it\'s sunny 1 day a month and that\'s probably a week day!)
Like I said when I get her fixed ill probably change my mind again. Probably...

For some obscure reason we decided to be in the Eurozone (still not sure why that even benefited us) but not adopt the Euro!
A good comment on Sky News this morning, we do not want to be part of a United States of Germany with a French poodle at their feet!

My engine will still have the stock 550cc injectors in, so the fuel economy around town won\'t change, it will change when you go onto boost though lol but due to the fact its a large turbo it won\'t just suddenly spool like my OEM one so will be off boost most of the time - my OEM one boosts up to 0.5 bar with any hint of me going near the throttle lol
Insurance - I am renewing mid january, fully declared with all the future mods like the turbo etc comes to around £500 fully comp :) would probably be less if I ring up a classic car insurance firm.
I never found it that cheap to be honest, but then when i come back i\'ll have the 5 years ncb. I\'ll see, but you can\'t avoid the fact that its not a practical daily driver and the fact that an evo will see better economy and the engine IS bulletproof. You certainly can\'t say that about a 13B.
It is bullet proof, it\'s mainly made out of cast iron, good luck trying to fire a bullet through that ;) :D
TBH Ben any 2 seated sports isn\'t practical, I can totally understand why you want a family sized car, but I will say this my neighbours GF got pregnant and made him get rid of the Evo because she couldn\'t get in and out of it due to the bucket seats, and taking 2 kids to do the shopping was a nightmare. Evo=practical, not really.
Have you found any Evo 3 at good prices? Compared to an RX8?
I\'d never get an RX-8 they\'re not fast enough for the fuel they consime. You can get an tax and tested evo II-III for £1000-£3000, i don\'t want a perfect one as i like to have a project. I\'ve got a long time yet anyway, still 4 months before i\'m coming home.
I am with you on the evo. All my rotary stuff is nearly gone. As I race I am looking at getting another rotary of some description as the annoyance factor at race meets is worth it alone. But the weather is nearly always against us so I am thinking of an evo 3 stripped out for racing, perspex windows, roll cage etc. With the evo I\'ve then got 4wd for the wet. Result. But then if a good 73 wankel came along then I would go for that.

RX8 consumes alot less fuel than an FC for better power.

Put a rotary on the 4wheel drive system in the Evo = HUGE WIN

Go in an rx8 with Clive. He will show you how fast they are.
I\'m just not keen on an RX-8 to be honest, the running costs are very high even compared with an Evo. They aren\'t turbocharged and i\'d chose an Evo over an RX8 any day simply due to the huge and comparitvly cheaper tuning potential.
Only thing I would do on an Evo is, after market ecu, upgrade ignition, water injection and loads of boost. Would be fast as hell
Evos use a lot more fuel than RX8s! Last time I was on track with one, the guy was doing 5 mpg and going no faster than me! I was doing 7 mpg, 40% better!
Personally Mr Martin sir, i think you will find any well tuned car will be unreliable! A mate of mine has worked with Skylines for years and the stories i have heard him tell would make most rotary owners s**t their pants! £12k - £15k engines going pop on a regular basis. Fortunately or unfortunately rotaries just have a reputation, good as it keeps them off the chav rader, bad for 2nd values when we come to sell!
If as you say your budget stretches to £3k, whilst i was looking i saw rebuild fd\'s (from specialists) selling for around that figure, some still with warranty left!
Personally after 7 ownership, be it fc or fd, i think you would find an evo or scoob dull by comparison once the novelty wore off!
From extensive research i have come to believe that the Lancer engines are pretty damn good, its also worth noting i will very rarely using the evo on track and they\'re supposed to do mid to low 20 mpg even when driving hard. The real problem here as i mentioned is the practicality and the fact i wouln\'t want to drive the FC daily, thing is its a few months away before i\'m back in the uk so we\'ll see what happens then.

maaaaybe... keep the FC as a toy and get a Mitsubishi VR4, basically a Lancer estate, only 1 second slower round the top gear track (I think), all the practicality you\'ll ever need and reasonably cheap...?
To be honest once the FC is fixed I\'ll probably fall in love with her again.
When I start to loose faith in rotary, I watch to pistons engine and al problems they have and, most of all, how much expensive they are to rebuild...
A friend of mine spend the same money I use for a whole engine just to do the heag of the engine (valves, camshaft, etc...)
Then I think to the sound of rotary, and love and faith come back... :D
