Title: Now it\'s the phone companies
Post by: johnf on December 02, 2011, 12:18:21 PM
Just had a text telling me my monthly contract charge is going up 4.34%

"It\'s in the small print SIR, we can do what we like as long as it\'s under the rate of inflation"

This is Orange who tell me they are having the lowest increase of all the providers.

Who\'s giving the best deal

In the 15+ years that I\'ve been with Vodafone they have never done that - whatever figure is agreed at the start of the contract has remained the same. I do have to threaten to leave everytime my contact is up however and their customer service is pants but I\'m paying £27 per month for an iPhone 4 on an 18 month contract.

I can\'t remember what that gives me but I use it a lot and never get any extra costs (except the usual premium rate stuff). I do also get a 20% discount through work.

Yeah i heard about this with orange, i\'ve got it on my 2 UK mobiles (neither of which i use funnily enough) I\'m a premier customer as well. Saying that i\'ve only been informed of it by my GF, my contract that is being used by my sister has probably had it too.

Orange Customer for the last 12 years, if they want my business to continue they\'d better make with the discounts!

I just got a 15% discount when i upgraded, however, this changes things a little and when i did phone up to "speak to someone", they already have a message to say, if you are phoning about the increase blah blah blah and then i waited 15 mins to try and speak to someone! They are obviously receiving very high calls on it, it makes you wonder how much it is costing to deal with all the complaints??

I had my phone stolen a coupe of months ago, not insured, my fault I can live with having to use my old phone but I would like a new smart phone.

I\'m very tempted to take out a second contract with another provider, get a new phone and just leave the Orange contract running on basic monthly charge till it runs out.

The thing that\'s stopping me is my number, I use the phone for work and I\'ve had the same number since the mid 80\'s and I\'m told I can\'t move the number to another phone without paying up all the outstanding contract term.

Any way round this?

A mobile number in the mid 80\'s the phone must have been huge,  del boy stylee.

Don\'t believe you can get around finishing the contract to port your number.

You could for the time being just divert any calls to your old number to your new number and leave your old number/phone effectively switched off!

Well there you go, just had a letter through from Orange reiterating the price increase but because i have recently upgraded i will be getting a 6 month grace period from the increase!

when did you upgrade?

I upgraded in march, and im :censored::censored::censored::censored:ed off with them to, mainly because they promised me i would get better signal if i got a newer phone and because they teamed up with t mobile making reception better, and in fact i get more problems with signal dropping out/not at all :-(

Only about 2 - 3 weeks ago!

I find the biggest problem with signal is w***ing about on 3g ! I just switch settings to 2g and its fine, battery lasts longer too!

Just go into the divert options and divert all. I used to do this all the time on my old work phone as it was pants - so diverted everything to my person mobile.

I\'m not sure if you get charged for diverting?

I think you do as its calling a number from your old number, if that makes sense! But when it comes up on the phone, it shows your old number as the caller id, so just let them leave a message and call back from your new number!
