right as said in my last boost thread im only getting 5-6 psi,
the last owner sold me the car saying the ecu had a stage 1 chip, and yes it does.... trouble is the chip is in the glove box and aint been fitted
now hes telling me that the boost cant be turned up past 7psi without buying his fuel cut defender  ... surely it can go past 7psi without 1 of those ???
for the record the mods are
stage 1 chip fitted in the glove box :)

standard boost is 0.45 bar. If you go 1 psi above this then fuel cut will kick in (you dont want that). Generally "stage one chips" have a map for a fmic, full through exhuast and air filter. They are usually mapped up to 0.9 bar which is where the stock set up starts to max out. The chips also tend to remove the fuel cut and rev limit.
If you\'ve got a turbo back system 3 inch or bigger you should in theory be getting boost creep, ie too much boost. However your bov could be leaking and thus stopping this, or your wastegate may have been ported to deal with the exhuast.
When does the turbo start spooling and when do you hit full boost?

Welcome to Rotary engine ownership, we\'re all officially certified skitzophrenic! :Giggle
Someone will be along soon to point you in the right direction, I\'m still trying to get the hang of it like you ;)

sorry shud have said i have an apexi filter aswell
as for spool, i cant give u figures from memory, i can say there is a bit of lag but when it kicks in its in fool boost almost instantly
so if i buy a fuel cut defender am i ok/safe to turn the boost up a bit ?
If you\'ve got a chipped ecu you shouldn\'t need the fcd.
read my first post bud.. ive got a chip and an ecu .. but they aint together
put them together then dude. Then you shouldnt need a fcd
av never done it before mate, never even used a solderer... or i would
take it to someone that can, a chip is much better than an fcd.
right that kinda answers my question then thanks... ill probs buy another chip as i dont know what this 1 is, the guy said stage 1 but dont think id be comfrtable doing it... why did he not fit it...., are these ebay ones any good? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAZDA-RX7-TURBO-II-STAGE-1-CHIP-N374-FC3S-13BT-FC-FC3C-/290495440863?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43a2e0a7df
Keep an eye on eBay for a chipped ecu, I managed to get my blitz access one pretty cheap. There is a thread by Yuigi in the parts for sale, he had 2 I think it\'s worth seeing of he has 1 left:
just thinking off the top of my head
1 - you are defo running a full decat ? ( down pipe and centre )
2 - what is your boost controller set to ?
3 - how are you measuring boost ?
with a full decat and cone filter you will hit boost/fuel cut at .45bar ( as some one said )
Sticking on a FCD will allow you to boost to .9 bar
as it fools the ecu into thinking that its running lower boost levels etc..
in reference to the ecu chip - you could remove your ecu and take it to a tv place ( or such like ) and see how much it would be for them to solder in the mount and the stick the chip in
but at the listing says - its designed for a after market intercooler
i have run a lot of my fc\'s with a full decat , cone filter and fcd and they have run at .9 bar all day long without any damage ( im not saying its 100% safe - its just what i have done )
Stu
1- yes
2- id imagine 6psi
3- apexi aftermarket guage
cheers for the usefull answer, sets my mind straight, right the boy is going to sell me his knight sport FCD (hopefully this is a decent 1) so with the full decat and cone i should be able to safely increase boost to around 12psi ? (just under 0.9 bar)
or would an uprated fuel pump be needed first
Uprated fuel pump shouldn\'t be needed. But if you\'re running 0.9 bar I\'d suggest you rewire the fuel pump for reliability, there is a guide on here somewhere, and make sure you\'re fuel filters/injectors are in good nick
good tip, cheers mate
you can drop in a FD fuel pump aswell if you want to pump more fuel around ( i have had one for years , but never fitted it ! LOL )
Just make sure the FCD is the correct one for the FC ( mine is a little grey box and was plug and play .. 2 seconds to fit tops )
If it\'s the \'ebay\' stage 1 - I\'d leave it in the glovebox - those things are nasty.
better off getting a chipped ecu with some paperwork or previous user setup info, so you know what you\'re getting and know it works.
Check out that thread I mentioned, I know for sure he had 2 different ecu\'s ;)
cheers guys,
prof, yea i think the chip will be staying were it is
b.martin ill get a look bud
yea grinder, he said its for the fc and it just plugs in under the bonnet
it does yeah , you unplug the connector out of the back of the pressure sensor and plug it inbetween that and the harness .. simples :D
It basically makes the engine think that its not boosting as high as it is meaning it doesn\'t cut fuel :) this is no substitute to proper fueling though!!
yea m1tch i know its not ideal but will do just now until ive added other supporting mods for a remap/chip etc ;)
Don\'t know what your budget is like, but if your prepared to spend the extra it\'s worth getting an apexi power FC or something similar. Expect to pay the best part of £500 though, but you have that mapped. A chipped ecu is pre-mapped, but its a far cheaper solution when just doing breathing mods.
not goind to far with this car mate, im keeping it but its more just a daily driver. i have another car that i put all my cash into, this is more just a toy so not really interested in spending loads, i have an apexiFC in my other car
Ahhhh, another brave daily driver! I don\'t know how you guys do it :p
Cost of RX7 + fuel = Cost of cheap eco box + fuel
^^ agreed the extra im paying in fuel is getting saved with the classic insurance premium
Ah classic insurance = Win!
