Title: TUrbo Sizing rule of tumb for rotaries
Post by: leeroy_25 on November 23, 2011, 08:50:17 PM
Okay.. So quick little puzzle!
If I had a 6 cylinder piston engine to make 450bhp and was us turbo x
I presume due to the extra gas flow on a rotary engine to make 450bhp I would have to uses X\'s big brother? Now would that be the same compressor size with a 1 size increase on the turbine A/R roughly?
Another way of looking at it maybe is if I have a turbo making 600bhp on a piston engine could I assume I am likely to max that out at say 400bhp on a rotary?
Now if I add another rotor into the equation how much does that impact it?

I am trying to size the turbo for my 20B! But not wanting to go the normal Garret/HKS route.. I am just torn between two sizes on the exhaust as I want to maximise spool without choking it top end or ending up with High EGT\'s

Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated!

Cheers
Lee

It would be best to tell us which brand turbo you are looking at...

GT4294R with a 1.0 housings is what you are after from Garrett.. A Q trim 1.15 with a 67mm wheel, and open 60mm wastegate with 4" exhaust would work too
