Title: Buying an rx-7 overseas
Post by: Dramalama on November 22, 2011, 06:39:51 AM
Hi.

My name is James and I live in Finland :wave

I recently got tired of scooby and started drooling for a fd or an fc, so I got an couple of questions..

1. Buying from the UK or Japan?

So, people usually prefer to buy from japan because of the rust, and more likely to get non-fiddled examples.

But buying from the UK will save me alot of tax money (23% of the car price)

2. If buying from the UK,is it possible that a rx-7 specialist (pettit racing, re:worx etc?) could point me to an fine example, and then be taking in for a check before buying?

3. Reliability: Fc(savanna/turbo) or Fd (I know that neither are bomb-proof but still, comparing the two. Witch one is better?)

Edit: and a fourth question! Winter driving? possible with both, but It seems to be better with an fc? opinions please!

Sorry for my bad English, and thanks for taking the time and answering!!

Regards James :chat

Hi James,

I bring in FD\'s direct from Japan so the bonus of no rust and the saving on tax :)

Feel free to drop me an email and I can let you know what cars I have available.  I am not far from Reworx in Portsmouth so cars can be fully inspected and even collected from there.

My email is martin@speedlineimports.co.uk (martin@speedlineimports.co.uk) if you want to discuss :)

Regards,
Martin

Hi

I am able to get cars direct from Japan too here in Finland, but it costs me around 2.5 grand to get it imported safely and on top of that the 23% tax.

Buying from England would be cheaper, and have decided to get an FC for tax reasons aswell.

I have relatives living quite close to Portsmouth!

Was thinking about the price range of an Fc? Either from the UK straight or from Japan.

Once I get my scooby sold, will have around £6800 pounds to buy it, have some money ready for an rebuild and other performance stuff!

Thanks

There are very few good FC\'s for sale in the UK, all the best ones are usually held by long term owners.  Be careful of rusty ones from the UK, some are very rotten.  I dont think there is anyone in the UK that imports FC\'s as there is little demand and no money in doing so.
