Title: is this turbo fracked?
Post by: L18M on November 21, 2011, 04:52:39 PM
my knowledge of turbo\'s is limited but comparing this to my other turbo i dont think that chunk missing is ment to be there as seems wrong to balance it that way.

what do you guys think?

thanks in advance :)

i think you can balance a turbo by shaving off any part of the heavier side.

You sure thats not a balancing notch? I just checked on google, found a newish Volvo turbo apart with the same notches, your turbo might just need a clean up and blow out to clean up the bearings - does it spin freely?

yes spins freely.
i would of thought  best to balance (shave bits off) towards the top of the blades near where the shaft contacts but i guess if its really wonky donkey then simple physics would suggest better to take a little out from a further distance from the shaft than a huge chunk out from closer the shaft.

thanks for the replies :) feel better now.

That bit doesn\'t shift any air though, notching the top will change the way it shifts air !

almost any turbo has a bolt on top of the shaft that is notched. it\'s were material is shaved away to balance it
