How would one go about this?
the target would be 600 hp on twins with a total weight under 1300 kgs.
I have a skyline now and im thinking the fd would be awesome with the atessa 4wd system.
ill also ask in the skyline owners too.
has this been done before?
ta
Good idea. :) Dont know if its done before, but it would be great thing to try to do something like that...
Actually, me and my brother have been wondering same kind of idea. Target is to build FD to rallycross supercar class. With rotary engine and somekind of 4wd system. We just dont know what Nissans atessa system even looks like. If possible, can you post some pics from it? :)
Btw, we have one FD in rallycross, running Nissan 4 cylinder, Fd´s rear, and (rumour says that) skylines front diff and gearbox...
I\'ve seen the FD\'s with Supra engines and RB25 & RB26 engines but all have been RWD.
A 4WD one with 600 BHP would be a dream come true and a reliable one as well...........get it done and be my hero :King
Dave.
I think it would become to cumbersome and heavy to drive.
It would be far easier to get the skybus down to 1300kg than take all the stuff over to an FD.
I think you would end up removing so much of the FD to make it fit it wouldn\'t be justifiable.
First question I would be thinking about though to take on such a task is, are they wheel bases the same? As that would make things easier to do. If not, you have got a lot of shortening and custom bits to make such as subframes.
I swear i saw one on utube not to long ago. Its a good idea but still think the v8 conversion will be cheaper, thats what im saving up for.
Having said that the nissans rb engine is wanna my all time fav soundtracks.
V8 beats RB any day.

not with the atessa system surely.
i love the fact i can lay a full 520 plus hp down at the lights on a soaking wet road and get ZERO wheelspin. its hard to get your head around. then as car realises it doesnt need power to the front the bias moves right back to the rear of the car with near no tourqe to the front wheels. im thinking about this more for the atessa than the rb block. i have the Nur N1 block in my r33 and i have to say i find it phenominal for it only running 520bhp which is pretty conservative and should at 1.4 bar run forever (much more forever than any of my fd blocks should have run anyway (just what i need) . i have full boost low in the rpm all the way to 8000 rpm. I do howver have to put up with the extra weight. i think that extra 300-400kgs really slows the car down past 110 mph the fd would climb quicker here. the only solution to that is 2 slightly bigger turbos and 1.8 bar = 700+hp
that in a track prep fd shell would be the drive of your life.
lets see off the top o my head
fd track prep car shell with blown lump
=10k
700hp skyline with damge (or similar)
=10k
splice em together
=15~20K tops maybe less, doing work yourself
35k to 40k maybe less
what around a track would beat that for that money with a roof for under 200k (atoms and alike aside) providing you can keep the weight low. near stock fd.
4wd system would be great but your not going to end up with much FD left after chopping most of the floor out to fit the system.
I\'m not nocking to not do it but it would be easier to put the skybus on a diet. Imagine how much quicker your car would be with less weight.
yeah grant your right on that.
aside from the pwer and weight ratio. the fd would probably benefit with a..
lower COG,
shorter wheelbase,
better aero,
better weight distribution
this is all cloud talk btw id only attempt to do it if i retired came into some real money and my girlfriend did a dusty roads on me.
also fd and r33 are very similar width. im sure the tranny tunnel would cope
How much does rb26 engine weight? And how long is it?
Where is the centre diff on the skyline?
rb engine and gearbox weight is pretty heavy must be if i remember what i was told 250kgs + full dressed. whats an rx about 130 to 150kgs. theres 2 shafts to the rear. the rear diff i assume is heavier also. i dont know too much about it because it hasnt broke down. ill get some measurements.
block 70cm long engine fully dressed with twins and inlet is about 70cm also
wheel centre front to wheel centre rear is 280cm
you need another 30cm for rad, fan, ic, in length
sorry its 70cm long and 70cm wide
its going to be deeper as well especially with a 10cm sump extension.
I think rear mounting an engine that size would be better for keeping the handling characteristics of the FD, maybe it would help wih weight distribution in the FD.
Intresting. 2 shafts to rear? So the centre diff and gearbox are in the back?
70cm isnt that bad. I think it would fit quite nicely. But everything "unnessessery" from engine bay shoud be moved to back. Like battery, fan and cooler...
But the heidht of that engine. I have seen Fd with Nissan 4cylinder. That engine is sitting very up in engine bay...
the gearbox is in the front. not sure why there is 2 shafts (i think one engages and disengages the front wheel drive but im just guessing)
