Title: Low RPM hesitation and the odd POP!
Post by: framey on June 28, 2004, 07:24:57 PM
Ok, I changed the cat to a straight through because I was getting a "Heat" light. Although response seems a little better, the low rpm (3000 and below) hesitation seems more noticeable. Also it seems to "pop" (dare I say backfires) now and then. Sometimes when I turn it off, I get a pop too!

Any ideas?

btw when I was sitting in my car looking up for inspiration I noticed a lable on the drivers visor which had the same "Heat" symbol and loads of japanese writing on it. When I asked a japanese guy at work what it said, he told me it said, "if this light lights comes on, stop the car immediately and take it to a service engineer"(?)! Apparently it\'s the engine bay overheating indicator. Took it in for a service and it\'s mysteriously been extinguished since (and yes I checked the bulb!!).

Yeah, it was serviced only last week and they said the plugs were fine so they didn\'t change them.

Did some say FLAMES???!!! lol

Had exactly the same when I got the cat removed. Popping is normal as any unburnt fuel is ignited by the hot exhaust.

I have since fitted a new cat as I was getting fuel cut due to boost spiking brought on by lack of cat. The perceived wisdom is don\'t run without a cat unless you have an aftermarket ECU.
