Title: Covering speaker holes
Post by: Richard.C on November 07, 2011, 08:39:24 PM
I need a little interior inspiration please.

I recently purchased an FD, it has full Re ADGT bodykit and I am building it into a street/track car but more track than street, most street time will be getting to the track. Anyway I want to keep a decent interior to make it comfortable for the occasional road trip.

The previous owner had installed a big sterio with amps and sub in the boot, that\'s all gone now but I\'m left with two great big holes in the bulkhead that seperates the cabin from the boot, this car has rear bins. I\'d just buy a new piece if I could find one but no joy so far.

So I need some ideas of how to make his look presentable, I could of course leave speakers in but they weigh a ton and I\'d prefer not to have them.

Here\'s a pic:

Glue parcel shelf fabric onto it?

I always use the fabric to make a new parcel shelf. It\'s nice, strong, stretchy material. If you glue it on tight you won\'t see a thing.

Hi Kenji,

I\'m not sure about putting fabric over those holes, I\'d prefer something a bit more solid, I was thinking a sheet of aluminium or carbon but I\'d like it to blend in and not stand out.

I would just fill the holes, then fibreglass and sand it down. Wrap It in foam then material and your done.

Put some fibreglass over the holes at the back & fill it at the front, then sand it down and paint it or else get some carbon fibre wrap & wrap it

I need to take it completely apart as it\'s double skinned, do you think fibreglass and resin will take to the plastic and not cause any issues with it?

As long as you rough up the surface at least 1" around the holes with rough sandpaper or a wire brush the resin should bond ok with it, prob best to use a small roller aswell to make sure you get all the air out when applying the resin
