what sort of power can you get out of a 1st gen without changing the engine?
All depends on your budget mate. They make bugger all as standard with all the emissions gubbins on. Put a big bore pipe on and a 48 webber should get about 135bhp. They feel much quicker than the power would suggest tho. My standard, apart from exhaust & filter, jobby always put 130 on the clock.
I know yu can get over 200bhp with the jap turbo + injection set up. A few grands worth tho.
I got an Elford turbo kit for 500 notes and that should make 170bhp no problem. It goes on the rollers soon to find out for sure......
My first gen has a Turbo II engine and gearbox in it. That makes it go well:D
not sure what a standard 12a will make with no porting ... I intend to find out what one will make N/A though ;)
i had just over 140mph out of mine with a 13b ported engine, that was before fitting a weber 45 carb, not had it on a rolling road but will do once the rebuild
Tim\'s (RX Motors) Gen 1 is a 12a engine - ported admittedly and running a GT35/45 turbo at about 350-400 bhp I believe. 3rd fasted Rex on the quarter mile in the UK!
the worlds fastest 12a is in a dastun 1200 coupe and is running and 8.4 I think

i\'m sure Racing Beat manufactured a carb kit for the 12a that could put out 280hp,i\'m afraid i don\'t know any more about this, and could be very wrong. As usual.
