Title: Automatic transmission oil feed thro water Rad.
Post by: c3kas on November 01, 2011, 10:35:32 PM
I am thinking of fitting a upgraded engine cooling radiator to my Automatic Rx7 FD3S 1992. However most of the radiators don\'t have the connections for the automatic transmission oil feed. I assume that the reason for feeding a pipe through the bottom of the engine coolant rad is to warm up the AT oil. Which is a funny thing as it\'s the feed to the AT oil cooling rad. Question is can I do without this feed or should I rig up a metal pipe to the bottom of the new engine coolant rad. Thoughts please.

the pipe in radiator is an alternative cooler to an external cooler
- factory auto FCs have the pipe fitted into the bottom tank and no external cooler

in effect what you suggest is having two coolers
if you have external cooler,, just feed directly through that and ignore the radiator

Thanks that\'s great. Just a thought tho, if the pipe goes through the main radiator surely the oil would be heated once the engine gets up to temperature! That\'s what I can\'t get my head around!

Take look here, there is an upgraded radiator with an external auto trans cooler.
