Hi everyone,

Just working out what intercooling I should go with on my FC running the TA45, saw this:

Check out this car! Cool turbo placement :D

with your huge turbo, a tiny top mount just isnt going to cope.

I saw this one, my TMIC is good for about half the power it will be making, I believe its already been nabbed when I do sell it lol

This bumper is mildly cut, but nothing massive

I don\'t really want to cut the bumper though, will be keeping everything as stock :) I have a plan though :) just wanted to see what FMICs are like before getting parts for the system I am thinking of

There is A LOT to cut and move to be able to fit a FMIC, I do have a Radtec V mount kit, but im not sure if im going to fit it.

Your going to want a big intercooler with your power, so if you don\'t want to cut the bumper (obviously you don\'t as that top pic looks aweful) get a large vmount for stealth IMO.

if i were you i would go with the v mount, what sort of power are you going for ?
Title: Opinions on this please?
Post by: Grant Monkhouse on October 30, 2011, 10:11:52 PM
hes going for 1.2 bar of boost with WI and hoping for 600HP i think. his turbo is quite large though

Post by: m1tch on October 30, 2011, 10:23:03 PM
I will also have a big red button attached to my AVC-R scramble boost function upping to 1.4bar maybe, although the clutch is only rated to 700bhp, so might keep the boost down a bit, im only running FD Efini rims :)

It will make whatever power it does at 1.2 bar, not really got much idea if im honest lol I don\'t have a target figure in mind.

Large is a relative term :rollin

wow thats big power your going for, i would go for the v mount, after years of thinking about this myself and trying to work out the best way to go, i have gone with the v mount set up,fmi would slow air down to the oil cooler and rad, share the air,v mount and do abit of work feeding the air into it, a good bonnet will do that,    and its more responseive. now thats just my way of thinking

flatout i believe its going to be a drag car, hence v mount isn\'t really used.

personally mitch i reckon you should do something interesting like bang the intercooler in the boot!

That would up the lag though surely die to the distance the air needed to travel? It\'s an interesting idea though, off subject Mitch running that kind of power you should really consider some wider and better (looking) wheels IMO ;)
Title: Opinions on this please?
Post by: m1tch on October 31, 2011, 03:48:59 PM
The V mount will increase lag vs my top mount, but I can\'t get the top mount any bigger, here is my idea of the route I am going to go down:

Fitting Hayward rotary V mount kit with Radtec rad
Mechanical PS pump is being remove for a straighter flow
Cryogenics will be used just before each run to bring core temp down
WI will bring the intake temps down further during the run
Less complicated as its just pipes with air
Cheaper - I have the V mount kit already

btw, theres a reason why I chose FD rims - you really think I need to go wider and increase wheel weight?

Yes because it looks 100x better - but if looks aren\'t your thing thats cool.

And increase in width doesn\'t nessicarily mean inclease in weight ;)

I was looking at some Rota grid drifts, I also had some staggered OZ pegasus rims, the issue being is that to have the wider rims I would need to fit a lot of body mods to the car and the car would look more \'modified\' if that makes sense? The FD rims are 1" wider but keep the same rolling circumference so I don\'t need to faff with speedo gears etc I was looking at some 15x10 steelies but the tyre costs are quite a bit lol Its mainly the need to flair and fit kits, I hate bodykits as they usually take ages to fit properly, they will get damaged and then its the extra cost of insurance as well as the paint costs etc, plus I would have had to mod the rear arch extensions to go around the Eibo sleek spoiler.

If your car is for drag racing then lag isn\'t an issue as your at full throttle all of the time and will be launching at some where near 7,000rpm. When on the street. Ruining in the big turbos vacuum is going to give good mpg. Lmao
Title: Opinions on this please?
Post by: m1tch on October 31, 2011, 07:22:04 PM
Thats partly why I have got a large turbo, the e-manage also allows 2 step :) on the drag strip it will spool fine, on the street it will be mainly off boost, but even a tiny bit of boost will still mean quite a bit of air!

2step on a manual box?! Hope you are purchasing a ballistic blanket to catch all the shrapnel when you dump the clutch. ;) :D

Do you know what they are for though?

They stop you from becoming a separate part to your legs.

Top fuel dragsters have them on the cylinder heads just incase they heads decide to part company from the block and try take a few people in the crowd with them. They absorb all of the energy so that the flying pieces just drop on the floor. Same thing as a bullet proof vest really. In drag racing you have to have these or a scatter shield around your gear box.

Safety first

Soon as my engine needs a rebuild rest assured I will getting it ported :D

Not that I want my engine to let go, just saying if and when ;)

Edit - Grant I didnt know that, think it was just the word ballistic. Learn something new every day :p

Same with supercharger straps, keeps all the shiny heavy bits on the engine if the parts decide they don\'t like each other at some point

I am here to teach ;)

Racing beat wont guarantee their products against serious injury or death if you don\'t install a ballistic blanket/shield when revving up to and beyond 10,000 rpm.

Yep. I still find it funny when a blower belt snaps (£90 each time) and gets thrown 20ft into the air when down at Pod. As there is nothing to stop them.
