Title: HELP! Engine problem maybe i need a new engine :(
Post by: StreetracerHCI on October 29, 2011, 01:13:47 AM
hi guys Tonight I wanted to drive a little bit with my FD, I put petrol and drive. the engine was already in temperature 80° oil temp. I was not running, I just accelerated a little to the max 3500 4000rpm and I heard a noise, not too strong at a PPUUMMM!!!
since then the engine makes a strange noise like a diesel engine :o
I put two videos to make you feel. Apex Seal Fail? http://www.youtube.com/user/StreetracerHCI#p/a/u/1/DKsvqujgQ5Q http://www.youtube.com/user/StreetracerHCI#p/a/u/0/9HXIRELWkzY
the engine 3 years old Rebuild from ReWorx 35k miles :( I made scrupulous maintenance :Hammer

crikey mate, im not to sure but definatley doesnt sound so normal! :(
do you think its the sound of a broken tip maybe? sounds like it happened very suddenly and only at 3500-4000rmp? cause thats quite low down considering....
i do hope you get it fixed man! :( gutted for ya!

my diagnosis is bad when the engine is running, you feel beat (tump, tump, tump, tump) from the center of engine. Not sure for the apex seal fail. I guess intermedial shaft or stationary gear fail :( I think the engine is to be rebuilt. Or take it a new!

could it be to do with the eccentric shaft? oil starvation... bearing on the way out? Tuner input welcome... Hayward?? Good luck and fingers crossed it\'s not the worst.... :)

I still have to do these checks, I hope it\'s something in the area behind the gear box. if it has them all in order, so I\'ll have to worry for eccentric shaft, bearing or more :2Confused
anyone input by Hayward, still have not read, at least i think
Title: 35k

That is really bad news mate. However, the engine has only done 35K. Is that not a little quick for the engine to go?????? :xconfused
Did you change the oil, filter and spark plugs often enough??

Mate, What can I say :( I bought the car and I immediately changed the oil and filter, I have covered only 1500k miles. After, I changed the oil/filter again and spark plugs, spark plugs wires covered only 400/500km and I heard a noise as if something had dropped. the car run fine no smoke, no loss of power, but you hear that noise that you saw in the video.
after my maintenance, the car was really strong, combustion was better because it was not a lot more flames from the exhaust or smoke of unburned gas. is also why I decided to change spark plugs and spark plugs wires. it was much improved :Yawn

That sounds like an apex seal has been damaged to me. Highly unlikely to be a stationary gear broken as they are as good as competition gears in the FD RX7. If oil pressure is good then not too liklely to bearings either. Regards Carl

thx Carl for your valuable response, the oil pressure is ok is the same as always, even if the test done by me for the compression is in good standing by sound pfft, pfft, pfft, pfft.
I resign myself to be a problem on apex seal? :o

soundsmore like a bearing, if pistonlump came to me sounding like that i would point it to a bearing but this is a rex but if power ect fels good then i would put it down to bearing best is to do compretion check see what you get this wy you know if its bad bad or just bad, as alot of it maybe able to be saved.

and if it were a problem around the clutch? when I heard that noise (TUMMMP) was very similar to something that was dropped

UPDATE another TEST: I not find any visible issues. the worst thing is that while doing the tests, the situation has worsened. I heard another tuump! and the noise has increased, now a thump thump feels good cyclical. the noise coming from the front cover near the alternator and water pump, all pulley ok run well without oscillations.
I think is the oilpump issues ? Chain? Gear chain? The oil press on my defy at 80c is 3 3,5 bar max. The sensor installed on oil filter plate greddy

sounds like a chipped tip. still giving compression but ticking against the housing as it spins. when it fully lets go it will be like a tractor. get a real compression test. the 1st housing was weaker in the vids

Also its not unusual for turboed rotaries engines to go at ANY mileage. Id consider 35k on one engine fantastic as ive never had more than 5k out of mine. Consoltaion is you can do a CHEAP REBUILD YOURSELF WHICH IS VERY SATISFYING AND WILL COST YOU ABOUT 600 TO 1000 EUROS. SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS
