Title: Slightly sticking FD RZ rear caliper - likely to work if regreased?
Post by: lockwood77 on October 25, 2011, 01:04:33 PM
One of my rear calipers is periodically sticking, doesn\'t seem too bad as the car will coast at low speed in neutral (i.e. it can\'t be binding so much that it\'s stuck on!), but I do get the odd frightening clunk from the rear as I presume the pad becomes unstuck at low speed and after a decent journey the wheel on that side is a bit warmer and there is a bit more brake dust.

I presume I can try and sort this be simply regreasing the slider pins, but in others\' experience, is that usually enough, or am I likely to end up replacing something?

Also, being RZ calipers, I gather they are the same as standard but on longer brackets for the larger discs - is the bracket part of the caliper, or can it be removed and thus I can use any FD rear caliper?

Ta! :)

Had the same problem myself lad after the fd parked couple months. Took pads out, and moved the calipers back and forth on their sliders. Cleaned up the stainless sliders and also cleaned up the ends of the pads as they can get also get rusty and a rough surface which tends to be more sticky, and finish off with a fresh dollop of copper grease on the sliders. Fixed mine up a treat!

Yeah, mine seems OK so far after regreasing the sliders, haven\'t been able to drive it much as only got a leaking steering rack fixed on Thursday!
