Title: What mods can I get away with.
Post by: RyanT on October 22, 2011, 10:46:14 AM
Ok guys I want to start modding my fd. But as I am still paying it am lacking cash at the moment so would rather stay away from getting a ecu and remap and just do a couple of lighter mods that would not need mapping after. So in simple would a cat back exhaust or an air filter mean I would run lean or should a ecu be the 1st mod I need to look at getting.

I personally would go for the ecu first just as a safe guard on your engine.
£450
Then you can go for things such as Decat exhaust air filters intercooler. Also a fuel pump rewire and change your fuel filter. Then if you want to up the boost, larger injectors will be required.

You could probably get an eBay radiator to help cool things better.
£130- just eBay Rx7 FD aluminium radiator.

I\'ve been waiting ages for a second hand apexi and colander to come up but being that mine is a later model I havnt seen any yet. What is the difference with a eBay radiator ? As in why do they cool better ? Also if I have to budget to get the car remapped after every mod, do you know how much the average map costs ?

Cheers ryan

An initial remap is around £350. Thens it\'s by the hour for any further mapping I think. Who is the most local rotary garage to you?

The eBay rads are a lot thicker. Which means more water. Aluminium also gets rid of heat a lot better. The eBay rads fit the standard fans too, with minimal tweaking. The Fd engine bay can get quite hot, especially when you want more boost out of the standard twin turbos.

Have you put up a thread in the wanted section? There are a few guys that break rx7s that may be able to help you find a later model ecu.

I don\'t think you would need a remap after every mod as the maps would be in a safe state for another slight engine mod after the mapping.

My nearest specialist is hayward and I\'ve had a good service by them before so as long as things stay that way, I would be going back there when I need anything done.

I have been waiting for one to come up that would fit a 2000 model. Now Xmas is coming up I can\'t really justify the cost saying that depends how much they go for. That was why I was just considering a cat back or intake pipe for now.
