Title: Any rx7 specialists around Nottingham/derby
Post by: mattinsRX7 on October 19, 2011, 07:03:24 PM
Hi I\'m from ilkeston derby and was wondering if there are any specialists around my area.
Could do with someone having a look at how my car is running before I purchase a apexi fc ecu.
Any help would be great

Cheers
Aron

I think WGT would be your nearest rx specialist, Aron. They\'re in Cheshire.

Cool, thanks for that! I see your only up the road in swad do you know much about rx\'s? I just need someone to hear the sound of the engine when boosting.
There seems to be a lot of noise ie sucking from the inductions and whistling from the turbos but not a lot of action. Seems to boost alright! Are rx\'s this loud under the engine? Or have a got a big boost leak?
Don\'t know weather im just comparing to my 300zx TT I had before just doesn\'t feel anywhere near as quick.
I purchased my rx about 3 months ago and had a proven dyno of 314bhp but just doesn\'t feel anywhere as quick as my 300 zx TT which was about 380bhp.

Oh no sorry, i meant i had the same issue with owning an RX-7 around Nottingham! No one seems to have a clue about them haha, my first FC was n/a so boost leaking wasn\'t a problem. Usually with an epic boost leak it runs like crap and pops and bangs etc, you\'d know if you had one. If you think there is a problem with it, best advice is to take it easy drive off boost and get it to WGT. I spoke to them a few times on the phone and they were very helpfull :)

And yeah, Toton Chilwell, my dads from Ilkeston lives up in West Hallam. Not many RX-7\'s in that neck of the woods :Giggle

I know there really rare round this neck of the woods. It\'s stands out from the rest of the cars from around here that\'s what I love about it.
Cheers for the advise fella think I\'ll give them a ring and see what they say. Suppose to be buying a apexi fc ecu tomorrow and having it set up by a guy I\'ve been speaking to in Birmingham.
Cheers once again

Only on this forum. Why are there some dodgy people setting up these ecu\'s? Might give it a miss then. Said it would be £500 incl set up by a specialist he knows!

I\'m certainly no expert. My Fd is a single turbo so wouldn\'t be much of a comparison.

I\'d definitely get a reputable specialist to give it a look over. WGT is the nearest to us and they have a very good reputation.
I\'d recommend trying to find out as much as you can about the chap in Brum who you\'re planing to get to map the Apexi for you. If it was me I\'d want to speak to people he\'s done work for and get some confidence that he knows what he\'s doing before going ahead with it.

Just a thought, is your engine completely standard or does it have any aftermarket bits?

Yeah it\'s has hks exhaust system, greedy stlye front mount intercooler, twin induction kits, uprated rad, rebuilt engine 5000 miles ago. All the work was done by steve rivett rx specialist. About 160 miles away though. Oh and I\'ve just had a rebuilt turbo unit fitted that was rebuilt by jimmys.
Think I\'ll have wgt have a look at it then

Although the guy I purchased it of didn\'t no much about the mechanical side of the car. He just got it looking mint with a spay job and kit. The guy that had it before him had all the engine work done.
Can you get 314bhp on a standard engine with a few mods? Standard ecu and standard turbos?
