Title: Antifreeze/Coolant flush
Post by: Eoiny555 on October 19, 2011, 10:45:37 AM
Im planning on flushing the cooling system next week, The fsm says that ethylene-glycol based coolant should be used @ a 55/45 water coolant mixture.

What brand of coolant do you use?

Ive read that i should fill the system with water only after draning & run for 5 mins then drain the water to flush all the coolant out, is this safe?

Any tips/advice on flushing the system?

when i changed mine i used glysantin (the dark blue stuff) anti freeeze and no you cant cause any damage running your car for 15 mins with no a/freeze in it but for normal everyday running you really need antifreeze in, helps keep the temps down in summer and stops it freezing in winter

When I flushed my system I used water and bicarb a few times - much cheaper than those engine flushes and you can keep going a few times etc. Just be aware that there might be an air pocket when you finally fill the system up again - might only be with the FC though as the FD has an AST, but if you hear the coolent buzzer go off soon after you fill the whole system, don\'t suddenly panic, mine did, it was just an air pocket in the block that I believe is where the low coolent sensor is (if it wasn\'t an air pocket it would mean that the coolent is low enough to only be in the block)
