Title: Seat trim (leather) - UK supplier?
Post by: gav240z on October 18, 2011, 10:32:39 PM
Hi Everyone,
I have a silver FD and I\'d love to change the interior colour from black to the rare to find red interior which I believe was available in the Type-X only?

Anyway I\'ve asked a couple of local trimmers about re-doing the seats in red leather and had a quote, but it was a tad expensive and I\'m not sure how good it will turn out.

I also found this:

http://www.rx7.com/store/rx7/fdinterior_accessories.html

So I could purchase this and retrim my existing seats, but I\'m wondering is there anyone in the UK who specialises in doing RX7 seats or has a kit already?

I\'ve seen various FD\'s for sale on here with re-trimmed in custom leather seats.

Here is a nicely done 1 on eBay right now

and how I want my red interior to look

There have been a few second hand FD seats in red show up but in various average states of condition and I don\'t want to ship (worn out stuff) over to Ireland so want to make it worth my while.

Right now though aftermarket seats look like the most attractive option. Do like the original seats for street driving though.:burnout

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Vincent at Gibson trimming done my sons, front and rears , in leather, custom embroidery.
He has done a hell of a lot of feature cars. And you can\'t fault his work.

If possible, get a look at a car with one of the retrim kits fitted. I\'ve no experience of these specifically but leather re-trim kits often use thinner and less durable hide. I fitted some to another car a few years ago and always regretted not having the originals treated and repaired. The new hide was softer and half as thick as the old stuff. Despite being unmarked the seats never looked quite right.

$550 + shipping + duty + fitting probably adds up to a tidy sum. If you made that your budget I\'d be tempted to shop around near you for a coach-trimmer to do the job. Can\'t believe there is not one in or near Dublin.

I got a quote of about 500 euro from a local trimmer but I also want to do the door cards and other interior parts in red like the standard red trim that was available but obviously quite rare.

I like the original seats but not sure I\'m willing to spend that much on them. Might make more sense to get some aftermarket Recaro\'s etc.. (Pole Position or SPG\'s), would love RZ seats but they are hard to find and very expensive even in poor condition.

Might just keep hunting eBay and see what reveals itself :).
