Title: Head unit help
Post by: RyanT on October 15, 2011, 10:32:27 PM
Ive seen a couple of people have like screen units fitted where the cd player goes. I was just wondering if there is a particular model that people get to fit or brackets that need changing. Or is it all a custom jobbie ?

is this for an FD or FC? single or double DIN? any make should be fine, they often come with adapter plates, I know of one issue in the FC though... there would be no point because the screen would have to be tilted forward to avoid fouling the rest of the heat console etc, so much so, you\'d only be able to see it laying down.

Also, speaking from experience, unless you spend a lot of time in McDonalds car park or just sitting in your car, there wouldn\'t really be any point in getting a screen, when are you going to use it? Just spend the money on getting a great CD/MP3 player and sound system.

It\'s for a fd. And I just thought it would look better than having that crappy compartment below the cd player.

you\'d be surprised just how handy that compartment can be, you can get slide out drinks holders in there (if you are lucky enough to find someone selling them.  Gauges could fit in there, maybe even a CB radio if you fancy it lol, there\'s plenty of stuff that would go in that gap.

If you get a double DIN screen, it may be easier, but a single DIN screen would need to be placed on top of the regular head unit so you don\'t block off the controls, then you will need to integrate the screen into the existing head unit for sound etc.

I fitted a double din screen type unit for a lad a few months back and to be honest it look pretty good. The only issue was the 3 miles of cable and boxes that went behind it :2Mad
Don\'t bother with the cheaper DVD/MP3/CD/NAV type units for £100 on ebay as they are not the finest but i suppose they do the job ok if you are on a budget.
Use a plug and play wiring connector and it shouldn\'t take too long, try to keep tucking the wiring away from the area where the stereo will sit otherwise it simply won\'t go in :Thumbs-up
