Title: Induction Kit replacement
Post by: fly on June 26, 2004, 07:03:12 PM
I think i have a stock induction kit fitted to my car, so i was wondering what would be the best brand/ kit to replace mine with and if there would be any benefit from doing so.

Lots of debate on this one fella.  Problem with an aftermarket induction kit on an rx7 is it is very hard to get a decent cold air flow to it.  Without this you will get a load of hot air being sucked into your engine from the engine bay which is less dense than cold air which causes less efficient burning of fuel and therefore less power.  (with me so far)  Therefore some folk will tell you to stay with the stock airbox and just fit a performance panel filter into it such as a K&N.

Personally I run a Blitz SUS power twin cone stainless steel set up and have found no noticable power loss.  But then again no gain either!!  Makes a nice sucky noise though;)
I am at present trying to fabricate a fibreglass housing for them but having probs finding a suitable place to mount an inlet where it will get fresh air in. (have a look under your bonnet.  Youll see what I mean) Probably have to cut a hole in my bumper and direct it through. Harsh!

I replaced my RE-Amemiya foam induction kit with a GruppeM filter charger and i noticed a huge increase in the way the car wanted to pull.  This may have been because the RE-A was nearing the end of its life, but i like to think its GruppeM carbon fibre box really earning its £500 asking price.

looks pretty trick too :D

Well i bought a replacement aluminium induction pipe which claims to to increase airflow over the standard flex-pipe which i have atm, the 2 cone filters look pretty tired, so was considering buying a new set of K&N/Blitz filters....

This is the first car ive attempted any kind of work on so im a bit scared of bodging up horribly:(

you cant go wrong fitting an induction kit.  If you have 2 cone filters then its not a stock system.  what do they look like?

Also any products any of you use for cleaning the engine bay/mechanicals or any particular technique for doing it, steam cleaning is expensive and cant be good for the electricals+id rather do something like that myself as its kinda satisfying.

Thx!

There pretty big, about 4-5 inches wide/5-6 long, would post a piccy but no digicam:/

My rear engine oil seal split a couple of months ago, so most of the engine bay is filthy.

what colour are they? twin cone kits i know of are the blitz (stainless steel), and Apexi (red cotton filter).
The HKS twin mushroom kit comes in a few colours but as i mentioned, they are mushroom shape.

The stock setup is a plastic airbox with a panel filter inside.

then they are either Blitz, or just cheaper universal cones like quickshift (very cheap and inferior)

are they attached to a champaigne gold pipe type thingy?
